The WCG finished on Sunday and the League of Legends tournament also came to a close. After dominant performances by the Asian representatives in the group stages it came as a surprise when all 3 of them were eliminated in the first round of the play offs.

More surprises were to come however. The fairytale story of the WCG LoL matches was that of Gameburg Team . Although they are not a usual high placing team they managed to knockout the Korean entrant EDG and then cause a massive upset when they defeated top North American team Counter Logic Gaming 2-0.

Joining them in the final was CDE . CDE are a mix team of players from some of the best teams from across the USA. Their road to the final saw them defeat fellow USA participants Team Dignitas and Jerome_NEGGRET

The final between GBT and CDE would decide who would walk away with the $25,000 top prize.

The final proved to be one step too far for the Gameburg with CDE taking home the Gold Medal for the USA.
