Today we reminisce about one of the glory days in esports and our organisation as we go back in time to the Counter Strike 1.6 era. What began as a mod of Half Life developed into a huge phenomenon in the gaming community, lit a fire for esports in general and forged the path for many following esports titles.
From 2001 to 2011 it was an integral part of SK Gaming and pushed us to new heights. In a day and age where only few people believed in esports we had a vision and a dream. For ten years, CS 1.6 was one of the corner pillars of our organisation, brought us many happy memories and laid the foundation for the future.
Our CS 1.6 rosters wrote history during that decade and legends made themselves immortal with spectacular performances. So let us go back to the past and take a look at our biggest CS 1.6 highlights.
If you look at the cornerstones of CS 1.6 you must think of the roster we fielded in 2003. The living legends of
HeatoN,
Potti,
SpawN,
ahl,
fisker, and
Hyper cemented themselves and SK Gaming in the Counter Strike history books by posting the best performance in the history of the franchise. Throughout 2003, our squad won every tournament and recorded a flawless win streak over the course of the year. They displayed poise, utter dominance and simply were in a league of their own at that point in time. Our crew set a new standard for the game and how it was supposed to be played. This extent of consistency over such a long period of time had never been reached before, is still unmatched and their record will probably last forever.
After the Swedes left our organisation, it took some time to find a steady roster and get back to the top on a regular basis. We fulfilled that task with the team SK Gaming put together from 2010 to 2011. This squad consisted of living legends such as
RobbaN,
face,
Delpan,
f0rest, and
GeT_RiGhT. The addition of the last two set the course for future successes. When we exited CS 1.6 in 2012 both of them went to
Ninjas in Pyjamas where they remain to this day. However, it was under our banner where they achieved some of their first big victories. During their time in our squad, they went on to win several big competitions, continued the Swedish supremacy their predecessors had established and cemented the Swedish golden era in CS 1.6.
We hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane. SK Gaming has come a long way since the early CS 1.6 days but we will always be nostalgic about our roots and legendary moments that the game provided for us. Let us know what comes to your mind if you think about CS 1.6 and share your favourite SK Gaming moments in the comments or on social media.
