The group stage of ESL One Cologne 2017 has concluded and the bisected starting field has faded out even more after yesterday's quarter-finals at the Lanxess Arena. The final four teams will go head-to-head on Saturday to scratch and claw their way to a shot at the prestiguous ESL One Cologne trophy.
After dropping to a 2-2 record and facing elimination in the final stage of the group phase our players prevailed and won the deciding match against
Fnatic on Mirage. Because of a lackluster terrorist side on Mirage, in which our men only accomplished two successful rounds, we lost the first map of our quarter-final against
OpTic Gaming . Furthermore, the Brazilians did not show any weaknesses and closed out the two final maps of Cache and Cobblestone.
In the first semi-final of the day,
Natus Vincere will compete against
Cloud 9 .
In the second fixture, the roster of
FaZe will be our next opponent on the road towards our title defense. During the past three months our team has faced their squad on three different LANs and managed to come out on top on all three occassions but the group phase of SL i-League StarSeries Season 3 Finals. Both rosters also faced each other at the grand-finals of Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2017 and ECS Season 3 Finals. We managed to be victorious both times and have won six out of nine maps versus the Europeans over the course of the last three months.
However, the players around
Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač look to be in form after the dominant victory over the before then unbeaten
Team Liquid . Our CS:GO divison will try to enter the grand-final to defend last year's title and theirs will try to advance to the final stage of the tournament to get some revenge for their last two grand-final losses against
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo and his counterparts.
It is going to be an exciting battle so make sure to cheer our players on by showing up at the venue or using the hashtags #RUNSKG and #VAMOSSK on all social media platforms.
