SK Gaming CS:GO managed to defeat the French squad led by the former VeryGames star player
Richard 'shox' Papillon in the opening match of Group D at the ESL One Cologne 2016 major tournament.
The Brazilians began on the defensive CT side on Cobblestone and secured the pistol round thanks to
Fernando 'fer' Alvarenga's two entry headshots in "ladder room" as well as the following two economic rounds. G2 managed to take the first weapon round, but the Counter-Strike veteran
Lincoln 'fnx' Lau quickly turned the game back in our favor. A crucial clutch followed once again by
Marcelo 'coldzera' David and fnx during the sixth round, but unfortunately for us the Frenchmen were able to recover and take out the next five rounds consecutively.
Cédric 'RpK' Guipouy had a solid performance during the entire match, but SK Gaming still won the last two rounds of the first half and closed it with just one round disadvantage below the rising French team.
We were able to secure the pistol round of the second half too, but once more failed to preserve the later gun round.
Edouard 'SmithZz' Dubourdeaux came huge for his team by winning two rounds with the big green rifle, but the Brazilians still managed to come back and win all the needed six rounds in a row to score their debut match and move one step further.
Our team's next opponent will be
Robert 'RobbaN' Dahlström's FaZe Clan tomorrow, 6th of July, at approximately 18:45 CEST. If we win the match, we will reach the playoffs inside the enormous Lanxess Arena and retain the all important "Legends" status. If we lose however, we will face either G2 Esports or the Swedish powerhouse Fnatic in the deciding match in a best-of-three series.
