Batoo OSL Starleague Winter 2008/09 comprises of one qualifying round, two group stages and two knockout rounds.

Qualifying
In matches in 24-group group stage, players will play against their pool opponents on best of three basis, with group winner of each pool qualifying for the 36-player group stage.

Round 36 Group stage
The 24 group winners of the offline preliminaries join 12 seeded players, who ranked 5th to 16th in previous season of OSL Starleague, in the 36-player group stage. The qualifiers are split into 12 groups of two, who play against each other in a specific map order on best of three basis. The winner of the matchup plays against the seeded player, who is assigned to each specific group by Korean e-Sport Association(KeSPA), for a place in the following 24-player group stage.

Round 16 Group stage
The 12 group winners of the Round 36 group stage join four seeded players, who ranked 1st to 4th in previous season of OSL Starleague, in the 16-player group stage. The seeded players have rights to choose one of their group opponents in the group draw. The players are split into four groups of four, who play against each of their pool opponents twice on best of one basis. In the event of three players having the same result, the players play against each other with the same rules as Round 16 group stage applied.

Knockout phase
In matches in both quarter-finals and semi-finals, players will play against each other on best of three basis, while the players will play against each other on best of five basis in the final.

Update:
Round 36 group stage Group C winner Son Chan 'BackHo' Woong of Hwaseung Oz withdrew from Batoo OSL Starleague Winter 2008/09 because of back injury he suffered from a car accident. KeSPA held a wild card tournament among the 12 group runner-ups of the Round 36 group stage. Taek Yong 'Bisu' Kim of SK Telecom T1 became the winner and succeeded Son Chan 'BackHo' Woong in the Round 16 group stage.
