This license is for America and Europe so far to broadcast on TV, but excludes Internet streams such as GIGA 2 and now eGames revealed more information about the contract. With the CGS having the exclusive license, it forbids broadcasters such as GIGA 1 which are streaming via satellite to show Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source matches for 2007.
With CGS having the exclusive license, it could cause some problems for the fast growing esport, especially in Europe. Still looking into the future, whole esports gets more professional which also includes to license broadcasting and higher salaries which is a way the CGS is going right now with CS:Source. But the director of GIGA Television, Jens Hilgers, already said they are working on a better solution for 2008.
One of the questions is, how long can or will Counter-Strike 1.6 survive? Europe still fears CS: Source and it will take some time until they adapt to CS:S.

the adaption to CS:S is not the "hard-part"... it's more about the question "do I want to play this bad sequel?"
#3 what you don't get is that even if all the pros switch to source, the regular players still won't, since we're not playing for the money but because we like our game. Maybe if there's a couple hundred euros to make I'll switch to source 5 days before an event but then stop right after it (just like when in the uk some 1.6 players bought source one week before a tournament and won it by beating the 4Kings source squad). And that's hardly converting to source.
Gotta agree with #10, but disagree with #13: The place in which esports has the largest audience of all is the place where they play the oldest of the currently active games.. (Starcraft, South Korea - in case anyone wondered)
hope this doesn't start a trend :((
1.6
goodbye CS! :S
we dont ""FEAR"" cs:s... we simply dont like it and we are not sure if we have the will to play a game we dont like just because theres more money involved.
Let's face it none of you are good enough to "go pro" so you'll just be watching - it makes little difference to you, does it? And in terms of watching i'd rather watch CS:S, i find the castings much more enjoyable than 1.6 , though i do not have a preference to either game.
when valve, csg and css will kill counter strike there is a one thing left worth to play for me, competitive tekken and street fighter, im not sure about Sc2 being good. They fags dont understand what they are doing to competitive gaming.
How ever "professional" esport is starting to become big business. Why should valve let other organizations benefit from "cs 1.6" financially when they have more benefit to sell a new version of CS.
CSP SAVES US !
It hurts GIGA (=TV), not TsN (=Stream). The exclusive license for Counter-Strike affects only TV stations which broadcast their program via sat or cabel.
