Kubrik fans
Hey,
Actually, when people first say they enjoy Kubrik films, all they got is a tendencious weird look from the others. "You mean, you really watched more than 15 min of 2001 A Space Odyssey? Then, something must be wrong with you dude...". Stanley was in my opinion one of the most talentend and genious directors ever, his vision of the world was very singulary, and before watching one of his films, you must at least read something about his life, then you might understand a bit of the message he wanted to spread the world.
Kurbik fans are really rare, and i doubt i would find some in the gaming world, as all the films he worked on were both weird and very old. But well, if you happen to be one of those: http://www.sk-gaming.com/group/1613

he is a genius indeed but his name is "Kubrick", not Kubrik ;)
I don't know if I'd describe his work as weird, he was just a pioneer who did things differently. Although saying that, Eyes Wide Shut was a bit weird, but still pretty good!
The amount of genres he covered in his work too was pretty insane, from dark comedy with Dr Strangelove (I didn't really like this, wasn't that funny to me.. but it wasn't bad), to Sci-Fi with 2001, an extreme thriller with Clockwork Orange, an amazing horror film with The Shining, and even a wartime action/thriller in Full Metal Jacket. Awesome.
I'm not really a die hard fan of Kubrick, though The Shining and 2001 are two of my favourite films. And I won't deny that the majority of his films are some of the greatest for their respective genres, and for film in general.

dr strangelove - great satire and very funny
the shining - has a nice atmosphere but I'm not really into pseudo "supernatural" movies
full metal jacket - the first part with the training is brilliant, when to go to vietnam it loses some of it's power
2001 - I have seen parts of it, but the fact that I never watched it to the end probably means I found it kinda boring :O
Haven't seen his other films.

yeah i know what u mean about full metal jacket... the first half is so much better than the second half..
The idea of the second half is genius, the fact that we believe the film is about one thing and then smacks you in the face with something completely different. Its brave and compelling and in my opinion the film doesn't lose power in the second half, in some aspects it holds more power but with a different perspective. Kubrick gets ten thumbs up from me. ^^

only when youre surrounded by 13 years olds maybe

yea, your right! nearly everyone who knows just a little about movies is of the opinion that Kubrick is right up there at the top with some other great directors like Sergio Leone or Orson Welles.
His films (DVD format) are really really hard to find & buy but definitely worth it,just classic & unique

lol maybe in vietnam

2001 a space odyssey, Dr Strangelove, Shining are all great but I was disapointed when a watched his last movie Eye wide shot.
If I'm not mistaken, Eyes Wide Shut was finished after Kubrick's death, so you can't judge it on the same level than his others movies. I found Barry Lindon, Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket to be really good movies.
no i think it was the other way round, Kubrick died right after finishing eyes wide shut
probably saw tom cruise naked and decided to keep his eyes wide shut forever.
Well the shooting may have been finished before his death, but the final cutting wasn't the one wished by Kubrick. He often used to redo the cutting of its movies even after a first exhibition to the public.
oh and by the way KiLi-, as a Kubrick "fan" you might want to spell his name correclty :)
