All popular stuff is from american television ;)
Lost, Prison Break, King of Queens, Scrubs, South Park, Drawn Together, Heroes, Dexter, Super Natural, Gilmore Girls, Six Feet Under, Battle Star Galactica, Stargate... etc and those are only the "newer" shows. Was always like this.

I never even watched one single german series ;) couse we are fluted with american stuff and thats much better then ours, u use much much more money to produce, so its a lot better then here.
Same with movies.
