usually Smoke on the Water is not one of my favourite songs, but this version really kicks ass

lol... then i have to reply the same thing again: you cant compare them, Deep Purple is hard rock, while Pink Floyd is psychedelic / progressive

David Coverdale is the only thing good about deep purple imo,whitesnake musically arent that great (even though i still like them) Coverdales vocals are what make them listenable, for me he's the greatest rock/metal/whatever singer ever.

 

no offense but Coverdale is a joke compared to Gillan

not saying that i dont like some of the Mk III songs though :)

 

Gillian can't sing for shit compared to Coverdale, that's where the argument ends for me :)

Gillan was probably the best rock singer ever (before 1980)

Coverdale has probably been the better singer since that time, ill give you that

tbh i have to agree in someway, not necessarily that he is a better singer, but in the 70's coverdale was not as good as he was in the 80's til the present day. He had a more husky deap voice in the 70's compared to the higher range he now sings with.

I still think coverdale is the better singer, from live recordings etc, in mind i've heard nothing better, but to each his own. Btw i'm not trying to say Gillan is not a great singer.

but im not trying to say coverdale is bad either, if you see i posted video of Mistreated up there, which is a very good song

im sorry to prove u wrong, guys, but neither gil nor coverdale reach freddy mercury... he was the best singer available since the early 70s.. i kno that queens glam rock etc. but their music is by far the best in that genre and mercurys voice cannot be touched by anyone

deep purples best song in my opinion is highway star, got the by far best bass grove ;)

musically bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin or others where superior

not saying that Freddie Mercury wasnt one of the best rock singers..... but Ian Gillan wasnt worse

 

hardly 'cannot be touched' he's a great singer no doubt but there are better, and as nicknamessuck said musically they aren't like band like led zep etc.

i didnt imply that queen is superior in musicianship or smth, since u cant compare them at all, they play a totally different style of music, i just wanted to point out that, in my opinion, mercury was on another level... u may agree or disagree, thats just a question of taste, i suppose ;)
