in your nvidia drivers, you have an option to fit 4:3 resolution (there are black stripes on the side). this option does work in 60hz only. if you want to play at 75hz, you can create a custom resolution with the nvidia control panel (create 800X500 @ 75hz)

ps: i tried 640x400 but it doesn't work for cs, i have the latest forceware drivers and i have a Samsung 2032BW @ 1680X1050, hope it helps ^__^,

and when to want to try another resolution, make sure than your new resolution is a 16:10 one ( 1680/1050=1.6 800/500=1.6 ....)
