how to play in 800x600 on a 24'' widescreen?
hi guys,
i need some help here. i always played CS in 800x600 on a 19'' in 4/3. i recently bought a 24'' widescreen and can't set it up.
when i set the resolution to 800x600, CS runs in a real small window, i can't find a way to stretch it up.
all i want is to have CS running in 800x600 with black stripes around, 19'' or 21''.
my graphic card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512mo with Nvidia wsql 257.21 display drivers
my screen: Samsung Synchmaster P2470H
thx in advance for your help, have a nice day.

"windowed" usually happens when the refreshrate used for the lower resolution is not supported by the TFT
check your parameters within Steam or the desktop shortcut and make sure there is no fixed refreshrate for 800x600 within the GPU driver or a third party tool
not sure if you can set it up to be 19/21" with black stripes, TFT usually "blows the picture up" to fill the entire screen
SPOT ON!
i've been trying to solve the problem for a few days, read dozens of threads on various forums and couldn't figure it out. even when i was changing the flat panel scaling in the Nvidia control panel nothing happened.
i never thought about the launching options of CS where there was "-freq 75".
now when i use Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect-ratio i have two black stripes on the sides.
THX A LOT FRAGGER
the graphics are not as good as they used to be on my 19'' but at least i can play.
do you know if i can do anything to enhance the quality?

well the thing is, even with fixed aspect-ratio there IS scaling
let's say your TFT has 1900x1200 native then the 800x600 pixel would be doubled (600x2=1200, black stripes on the side for width)... that's where the bad quality comes from
you can always give AA (Anti-Aliasing) and AF (Anisotrope Filtering) a try
from my experience everything above 4xAA doesn't give any improvement and everything above 8xAF gives you flickering or dodgy texture at higher distances
the following used to be my high quality config, not sure if all of them are still working
they SHOULD be safe for league usage but you better check again (updated rules, etc.)
