Well,

I'm not playing cs, or other steam games that much,
but it's really irritating me now.

When I open my cs (or another steam game),
I always have this black background, so I can't see the menu,
and if i press my CONSOLE button, i can't see that either..

If I join a server from the servers menu, then i get the same black background;
so i can't see for howlong it has to load, if it's stuck, ..

Then, when I'm in game, I can't see the menu (to chose a team),
I can't see the details either (Bulletholes, money, HP, radar,..)

I've tried some things like Cleaning my register,
I've downloaded some programs, and there's nothing wrong in my register =/
I must say, the day after I cleaned my register, I was able to play for a few hours,
but after that, it was stuck again..

I've tried to make a shortcut on my desk, and then put the resolution on 640*480,
but that doesn't make the game playable, it even ruins my screen,
'cause everytime i log in on my computer, the resolution jumps to 640*480,
so i've de'activated that resolution on the shortcut, and putted the screen back on the normal.

Well, I don't know what to do anymore, nobody seems to be able to help me..

Hopefully someone is able here?

it's just a problem that i need my steam to watch hltv's =/

Thats odd problem!

Well, I've been asking around on mIRC,
and there were people who had the problem in the past,
but they don't have it anymore,
but everything they told me to do, didn't help.
for those who have the problem 2,
try to do the things i said in the main post,
maybe it helps for you guys.

he's in his exams now,
hopefully it will work then.

I was this problem too,go to Properties/Launch Options and set something like -widh 800 -side 600...

if you alt-tab in and out of cs (or whatever game) do you eventually get picture?
it does sound like a graphics issue and you did the right thing trying to change it to 640, but I don't think thats the proper way to do it. Go to the games list in steam (now called library) right click on counter-strike and go to properties. In set launch options type -w 640 -h 480. That will make cs open in 640x480 regardless of everything else. Also, it could be a refresh rate problem. Try making sure that your refreshrate for 640 is something your monitor can handle. New graphics drivers have built-in custom refresh rates, but if not you might need to download reforce or refreshlock to do that for you. let me know if any of this works.
