the most people use 640x480 with a large crosshair. older players (there not change it) plays with 800x600 and a medium crosshair.
not many people plays with 1024x768, i knew one progamer, that was fRoD from coL.

640 480 or 800 600
i started with 800x600 and played with it like a year, then i switched 640x480, its uglier but way nicer imo.

Im using the highest resolution
800x600
1024X768 (for me its the best i dont know what will be comfort to you)
800x600 medium, it's best way for me
using 640x480 like for 5 years now switched to 800x600, but i think ill switch it back :P
im using 1024X768 Small crosshair and its fine for me
