Normal resolution on widescreen

Heya! I've seen some movies from a few LAN tournaments where they're filming the teams playing the matches. And I've noticed that they're using widescreen monitors but are able to have a normal resolution. I'll explain further, what I mean is that you can see two black areas at both sides of the screens so it is like playing on a normal screen, eventho it's widescreen.

I have widescreen at the moment and I'd like to try it out to play with a normal resolution with black areas on both sides of the screen. If there's anyone who knows how to set this up please tell me! =p

I know it's something with setting up 4:3 ratio with the resolution I wanna play with, unfortunately I have no idea how to set this up. Thanks in advance!

Well the only way i have found that u can do this is to change ure horizontal range on the monitor in the "monitor" options. Then i get black areas and dont think its possible otherwise because if i change to 1024 for example it just covers the whole screen but its kinda crappy view.

Yeah. I've tried that. The thing is that it works to do as you said, I get black areas at the sides and it's like having a non-widescreen monitor. But when I get into Counter-Strike 1.6 it's as usual there. No black areas at the sides and it's widescreen mode there. Would really like to change it.

Anyone else have a clue how to solve this please respond! Thanks in advance.

Bump

I'm using 19" widescreen. I use 1024x768 resolution. I use the normal at the display option. If I choose widescreen, it will strech the models and making the game a little bit laggy. In 1024x768 I didn't encounter this laggyness.
