WoW is Australia?
Well, ima go out to australia for like a year, wanted to know firstly, does anyone know if its even possible to tank on EU servers from over there (due to latency being too high)?
and secondly, are there like australian wow servers, like the EU and USA ones being seperate.
Any info, plz :)
cheers sk-gaming.com peeps!

uh.. the majority of WoW players from Australia play on US realms actually.. Blackrock and Barithias are the top Aus servers.. Don't roll on blackrock though, it easily has higher queues than Tichondrius most of the time. Blackrock is considered the 2nd most skilled server to Tich on bg9 and happens to have the largest Australian population as well.

Been an on going battle for us to get some aus servers for WoW..though to NO result.
Our pings usually range from 400-500ms so im not sure what you'll get trying to ping EU servers.
Most run WoW through a tunnel which seems to shave off a good 150ms. Try that when you get down here.

My guild has two players from India. They are playing Arena and 10 mans with us and it works fine. So I am sure that it is also possible from Australia, but obviously with a higher ping that u are used too right now.
What you should take more into consideration is the time difference. Sydney for example is 10 hours a head. If you would start a raid in Europa at 18:00, it would be 04:00 the next day in Sydney. And THAT is by far the bigger problem in my opinion :)

without starting a flame war.
australia has expensive internet (and by expensive i mean, it costs alot to get stuff hosted here, the actual user internet plans arnt that bad compared to what i have payed in USA . Canada and Malaysia.
with this is mind it would cost far to much to host wow in australia. (we have servers called oceanic realms, which are just strategically placed westcoast USA servers, and adjusted server time.
The internet is kinda fast, with speeds between 256k - 25mbit adsl2+, even if you have a fast connection (expect to pay around $50 a month) you will still get between 200 and 400 ping, this effects pvp more then it does raids. you should be able to easily main tank anything.
to prove this point, have a look at guild TSUNAMI on FROSTMOURNE oceanic server, they have BT on farm and lots of warglaive drops :D so it is playable.
all my experiences are with US servers not EU, but general browsing speeds arnt all that different from USA to EU for us, so id say it would be simular.
as some1 above said, the only main problem you will face is time difference. i hope your guild raids during the day or your up for some bad sleeping patterns.
if you plan to play from a lan cafe
Brisbane - The Bunker
Sydney - Istar, CityHunter
Melb - ZoneAdren, VA
these are some well known gamer cafes that should have some decents playing.

@GoMeZdaGreaT
The Bunker in Brisbane is actually owned by an old Eminence member on Blackrock. Infact, half of the regulars at that place were in Eminence at one point (Eminence got like 4th/11th US/World Kel'thuzad kill back at 60, and were still in the top 100 during TBC.). Emi also had former Aus pro starcraft players and wc3 players in the guild as well(iori_au and iB.World + Moonglade) for WC3.
These thread(s) has a listing of AUS/US raid guilds-

I think there's an AUS population on a couple other servers too. There's a small one on Tichondrius as well.
hope this helps
