I would take a kodo pet
Kodo is not a hunter pet ... its a mount ...
You can take kodos as pets in wotlk lol
its Rhino
dinosaur is looking very promising
best pet is the moth 500dps by lvl 70 in a rid
My cat did do around 700-800dps in a raid :P
Best dps pet @ lvl 80 will be Devilsaur.
Best dps pet @ lvl 80 will be Devilsaur.

kodo pet
Kodo is not a pet ....
i think you mean Rhino ...
because no kodo can be tamed in WOTLK ...

HUnter pet.....
Hunter weapon!
Devilsaur in my opinion so far has been doing great dmg more than 1200 crits in raids.
Okay so I have to rant, I apologize for the length and passion, but something is really bugging me. I was just having this argument the other day with yet another person about this same thing. I have a gorilla, and love him best of all the pets that I have had hands down. Yes I have a devilsaur, who bugs out and tends to decide to charge at enemies I have not selected for reasons mysterious at best, a bad trait in raids, and he burns out his focus too fast. Yes, I had a ravager, that died so quickly I went through ridiculous amounts of money keeping the beast fed. And we don't even have to discuss the problems with the flying anything, can you say squishy caster class. The fact that everyone in most of the forums concerning this fails to realize (and ignores when the dps counter comes out at the end of the PvP bg or PvE raid) is that it doesn't matter how much quick damage your pet does if they can't stay alive long enough to really do anything past that first coupla good hits. Since the nerfing of the marksmanship spec and considering the too specific nature of survival (which has never been the greatest spec, no mater what the arenas say-as soon as the novelty wears off and ppl figure out the before unseen tricks this spec will go the way of the devilsaur), my beast mastery heavy tree has been the best spec I have had- and it has what the others lack, versatility. So too does my gorilla when in this spec. In bg's I am only beat in dmg by mages and paladins (I always come in from 1-5, even with greens in an all purple playing field), no matter who wins...and I am the center for griefing because of it. In addition, although it seems at first as though I don't do much dmg in instances, in reality at the end I am at the tops of the dmg meters everytime. Let's talk specifics here, the other day I was being hounded by three higher lvl folks in bg, a rogue, a mage, and a lock-most of the time this combo can be a lethal one for a hunter. Now wonder of wonders, my pet killed the mage while I was busy fighting the rogue off me (because I pointed up my bestial wrath, I might add-and got a trinket that most hunters avoid that ups the dmg of my pet). Then my pet kept the rogue busy when the ice trap on the lock died thus allowing me to kill off the lock. By the time I got to the rogue she was mostly toast, and my pet had just then died. In an instance that started my peevishness, our tank(dk) was not holding the aggro, so the dps folks ended up being on prot the healer mode. At the end I was told the fault was mine for having a bad pet for dps. Here was the fact, of all the dps in that dungeon I had the highest dmg on the meter (that was still, yes, sadly low due to the circumstances), because my pet was burning dmg while I concentrated on the priests survival. The other dps fell behind when distracted. Also a fact, the last healer only died a few seconds before me, who died last, because my pet was occupying the mobs while we ran away. (and btw, if the healer heals the pet with everyone else-a quick macro revision-then my dmg is even higher) So when ppl say no one attacks pets anyway, so who cares about the squishy unless you are questing I say pffft! It simply isn't true. Everyone is living as though we are still pre-bc, we aren't the specs have changed and the old rules just don't work. Most hunters are in a bm spec nowadays anyway, it's time to make it work for you. I dare you all to go try it yourself, plz, spec up that bm, run the quests, run the bgs, and run the dungeon back to back, check your dmg meters, and see if you aren't converted.
cat I believe
cat i´d say too, but then i gave up from testing scorpid after 2 hours of grinding :(
right now i belive its scorpid i think i read this on another post due to the bugged dmg the psn does im probably wrong though
scorpid is a very viable pet, with 3.08 i think not so much any more.
@ Suecydoll: If you end up in a group with a tank that has such issues then a gorilla might be the best pet around, the aoe threat of thunderstomp is awesome in regards of picking things up, but the "tanks" that are unable to pick up mobs in an heroics are easily counted and avoided (its childsplay), at first i ran with a gorilla a bit in heroics and early raids (naxx 10/voa10/sart10) due to laziness. But after switching to a cat the damage increase is just awesome, regardless of what you run, the high crits of the stomp looks impressive, but "white" (more like brownish :P) damage of a cat weights it up easily. Just make sure you find tanks that know what they are doing, and why, and using a pet purely for the dps it brings will be the best choice (hugging the healer until he/she starts to keep your pet alive with a few heals is a good solution too).
Its all about not playing with the huge amount of "special" people out there.
