The dying Euro warcraft

a lot can be said about this, but gaming in Europe has definitely went on a decline.

4K a shadow of its former self, fnatic disbanding, and Euro players in general finding it harder and harder to compete with the massive amounts of asian players. I dont think these are all coincidences.
even SK, which was traditionally a Euro powerhouse, can only regain that status by purchasing koreans. Now SK will have remind soju lyn in almost every CW.
Less and less european players and teams are on the top level as their asian counterparts.

these are just some of the many signs of the gloomy future, in my opinion.
Did these happen for some real reason or was this all just some temporary thing?
Ofc things may be different once sc2 is out, but in wc3, it looks pretty bad.

Oh noes we're all gonna die
Stop panic, europe is stagnant and stable ~~

traditionally a Euro powerhouse? Hi Sk.Sweet, SK.Zacard SK.Asia ....

Gaming is just so much less popular in Europe compared to Korea where it is as famous as football in England!

it was a good move from mouz to recruit tod, so the competition will be a lot harder and the part of teamgaming in wc3 wouldnt die

with young talanted players like elfi xlord dowaq happy with the support of oldscholers like grubby and tod for example, i can only hope for a better future for europe! and i agree with espider about gaming popularity.

dont lose hope, eric is still here!

agree +++

kopitz, you are the next Moon. You are the future of Warcraft!

may the force be with u

targa top 1 world soon , dont worry

soon.. when it won't matter.

at least he's top1 in our heart

If targa, infantrist and knutzi don't retire, Warcraft will never die.

signed.

or Flabbert

i don't know much about european war3 scene but i just played a few games in northrend and i got maphacked like =_=;;; why euroeans like to maphack...

You miss a couple of points I think. The very best Asian players (apart from Sky) play for European teams. Nationality in eSports is kinda irrelevant since the only time there is interest is when someone doesn't get a visa for an event.

SK has always had a tradition of using the best players and for Warcraft III they've predominantly come from South Korea. Making Europeans fight for spots against the best players in the world is the entire point and raises the skill level of Europe at the same time.

Serious answer I know, I'm sorry :{{{

Real life comparison though, look at the top European football clubs, getting richer and more powerful because of South American and African players!

4K is not dead yet! Sure Tod left, but they still have a decent line-up and are imo one-korean-away from a top team!

Well, there's still Gravitas to feel for. I would discribe their managers position like "ever europe".

pfff, gimme a breake...

Ye, well looks like Russia is gonna get one Wc3l team and the rest of europe another, Gravitas' lineup looks really good and solid.

the only thing i do not understand is why you talk down the asian players and why is such a big issue that sk has Koreans in their team. It's all about business imo. they are better, they win more, the clan, business, organization gains more fame from it, more sponsors, more money.
Recruiting asians players is also a strategical move and i dont see anything wrong in it.

The title should be change to "The dying Euro warcraft in SK"

I think in europe are many talented players who can still be a nice help for the wc3 komunity.. and i dont think wc3 is dead or smth like that.. And many players like me won change wc3 to sc2 :/

you guys are forgetting mouz that still has a very good euro lineup boosted with fly, Kinda funny actually that all the "extremely talented europeans" are actually UD:s. And UD is concidered by far the worst race nowadays and even the top ud players cant win anything anymore so it's gonna be very hard for them to actually achieve anything at all before SC2 comes out. (UNLESS Blizzard has a nice christmass present in store for us in form of a new patch)

I would not exactly say that Warcraft in Europe is dying. The evolution in the scene is only slower than it was before, now you won't see new players rising all the time as you have seen in the past 2-3 years. However there have been some new comers who seem to be improving a lot, let's say DowaQ and Bringer to name a couple.

The reason why Asia is more and more dominating the Warcraft scene is because many Asian countries, and especially China, are currently haveing a great up swing within the Warcraft scene.

Europe has reached its peak some time ago, Asia is only on its way towards the peak, but to say Warcraft is dying is not exactly true.

wc3 is rising in germany :) it is much more bigger than years before ;) i think this "euro-wc3-dies" thing is, sorry for that word, bullshit and totally senseless. it is sport and like in every sport it is international. in football for example europe is the main region with the best teams, in wc3 or starcraft its asia. i see no problem in that, there are many europeans who can beat asians too, its not such a ultimate dominance imo. its just harder for europeans to get on the very top level because they got a lesser financial background and much less amateur- or semipro-tournaments to proof theirselves in europe. nevertheless there is eps and its gettin bigger and bigger, i think even when sc2 comes out it will stand on the point that its getting bigger continuesly. the fact that on the wc3L finals were 95% asian players is, imo, not because there are not enough good european players but because the more europe teams like mTw and mouz for example werent good enough or a bit unlucky too but in the next season they got great chances to go to the finals :) (if mtw qualifies^^) another thing with the wc3L nowadays is that ALL teams in it are so close to each other that 1 or 2 wars could change the whole ranking. i definitley think NOT that wc3 is dying in europe -. -

asia guys live from the money they earn by gaming. Means they play warcraft every day for hours and hours. How can you compete with that ? In euro only a few players are real pro-gamers, the rest needs to study/work besides and can't put that much time in wc3. As long as this remains, asians will be dominant in wc3. Like moon said he plays about 12 hours a day before big events. That's even not possible for euro players ..

ye agree above, europe still have new players rising. WC3L seasons was the harder so far, thats for sure. And yes eps is good thing, but its only good for germans. Well i realy looking forward sc2 game. It should be the game witch represent "eSport", its futre eSport game.

only because players join different clans it doesnt mean euro gets weaker. its just not like 100% euro vs 100% asia teams which is good imo

Very true what Gamlason said.
The only representive power of Europe was from 4K.
I think the brakefall can be also involved with SK.Deadman fading away from the warcraft scene.
Deadman was the bait and 4K is the explosion, SK the imploder.
4K had a lot of troubles from FoV to NuKe to Creolophus, thus leading to ToD and Demuslim.
SK immideatly got into trouble when Sweet left SK and Zacard stopped warcraft. You can't really blame them for getting 3 good players who were clanless that happened to be korean. They are a replacement for Sweet and Zacard.
Deadman is a serialkiller now.
