LCD Monitor for Warcraft 3 - 120Hz useful ?
Considering to buy the Samsung 2233RZ monitor which is intended for "real 3D" which i dont care about.
But is has 120Hz which is double as fast as the normal LCDs (60Hz).
Still its quite expensive so does anyone have expericene with this stuff?
Is is worth considering for WC3?

Im no expert with computers but I would say that you shouldnt buy expensive monitor only for wc3 :/ Imo almost any kind of monitor is good for wc3

Definitely worth for your Head Hunters aim ROFL.
For a little bit more you can get a 24" monitor with normal Hz and without the 3D stuff you don't want anyway.
Works fine for Wc3, once you get used to the units being BIIIIG, but a little stretched.

i could never play stretched. my parents have a 24" and when i play wc3 there, i always set to fixed 4:3 aspect ratio so nothing is streched. of course you have black bars left and right of the image but i dont mind that a lot.
120 Hz = 1ms delay and better picture quality when objects are moving
nerdquestion ...
i dont think so, wc3 maxfps is 64.

I think you should buy it.. good refreshrate is great for warcraft3
I would wait for the first monitor with 500Hz. Heard it is faster an better.
So funny.... not
Stupid Question - stupid answer. :)

You didn't ask a question. Your peanut brain needs to learn2play.
so guys i actually bought this monitor now.
its great. i run the game at 1400x1050 so i have black bars left and right of the image, but thats good because the image isnt stretched.
you can set the refreshrate ofwc3 to 100Hz in the registry.
it just looks smoother. of course you dont need it but its nice to look at.
the difference in first person shooters is huge compared to a normal tft. everything looks so fluid...
so anyone looking for a new monitor should def. consider this, also its one of the last 16:10 monitors which is better for wc3 than 16:9.

i heard 120hz will make you go blind 2 times faster then a 60hz
My T240 just died...
But they will replace it in 3-4 days. So no hard feelings.

That resolution is stretched.

no sir its not
warcraft 3 native is 4:3
4:3 = 1.333~
1400:1040 = 1.333~
so its the same aspect ratio
for comparsion
16:9 = 1,777~

Your math is incorrect.

Arf, messed up post and can't edit. Anyway:
Your math is incorrect.
Lol :P. Just saw it was 1050, not 1040, not sure how I miscalculated that in the first place, but when checking again I used 1040 and got incorrect ratio of course. Anyway I'm wrong, you're right etc. :)
Yo Dasdingo, I have been wanting to do the same, swtiching to 120hz for war3tft. You mentioned that u could set the refresh rate of 100hz for war3, how does that work out for the 120hz screen? Arent u able to set it to 120hz?
I remember ages ago when i had my CRT running 85hz, i think war3 was also set to 85 and i remember it to be smoother than the lcd 60hz can manage. Hoping to get the best of both worlds.

Recon, how about a technical reason on why or why not ? :)
Anywho, i have been looking into this and luckily been able to run my dell 24" @75hz (at a reduced res of 1280x1024) to test out a few things. With the max fps set to 200 and refresh set to 75 (from the registry) the max FPS i could achieve was (reported by fraps) only 64 :( As already stated by AlphaTray.
I might try a few other things, maybe theres a way to force the fps past 64.

Is there a vysnc option for war3? Not sure.. anywho there is always a difference between higher fps, even if its above 60. Its just that some people can see it and appriciate it and others dont really care. I guess im one of those smooth motion fetish people :P
