Psychological tricks ingame. Tell us!

Do you use any mind games to confuse your enemy like telling him how beautiful he is?

Have you ever won a game only because you tricked him?

Well i actually made an audio commentary on something similar, its not exactly psychological tricks but more about confusing and surprising the opponent in general..

http://www.wcreplays.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2216911#post2216911

Please leave a comment and ask it to be frontpaged if you like it! xD
(Keep in mind its only my second audio though :P)

btw link is somewhere in the middle of that thread cuz i couldnt edit the first post anymore xD

This is gold man! I listened to the whole commentary and it so covers what i meant. GJ

Thanks man : )

Do you have some tips on the AC itself? Apparantly for some reason my audios dont get frontpaged so i have to be doing something wrong >.

once i was playing and i tell my opponent i was MYM|Moon and he left

I rmemeber this game OvsO on LT.

One of them gets a few wood while flaming his oponent saying stuff like "You hack, how can you destroy my only building like this! please dont control my units! U hacker, I report you! blabla, etc...", then builds a ninja (hidden) town hall and kills his starting one with peons.

The other guy was so confused when he couldn't see any building of his opponent at any starting pos, he left...

The guy earned rep of the week on Replayers :)

This was first done as terran in StarCraft with terran :]

I had heard about this pause abuse lately, where shortly before the opponent's hero dies you spam pause so he can't get his tp off.
I made a ladder game, raped the guy early on, then got my Dh surrounded and pause spammed to death. The other guy then proceeded to tower me which I had already countered so he was just buildings towers outisde my base without them hurting me. To avoid a long, boring game where I just have to kill towers I called him a strong nerd, he went =( and left.

hmm I played once on a new account and my opponent had 0-0 stats, he said something like "hello this is my first wc3 game, please dont be so hard to me" .. I thougt easy going and played warden only fasttech.. he was orc an rushed me with bm grunts and towered me -.- ( he had pretty decent micro and was anything else then newb)

Not playing the game actively anymore, but if i would I would simply say "Hi, I like Grubby, you like too?"
That should cause him a shock attack.

But with Terran flying CC (or NE tree eating trees), it's too obvious imho... The genius move was to do it with a race like orc imho ;)

i told him to go easy on me, and he acutally did.
what a silly noob.

So basically, there are 2 ways to trick your enemy: by chatting (which most of you tend to relate) and by playing in a confusing way (which is what the thread maker meant I think).

You cannot do much by chatting, because all the noob tricks like hiding a main and kicking the starting one, etc. will never work against a good player and often not more than once and even... when I was a complete newbie, with the ELL that was going with that, I experienced as many stupid tricks (which were supposed to make me leave or take it easy) as possible, but none of them worked, without that I really heard about them before...

But what you can do is getting a slight advantage by using disinformation. For example, I had once more than 90% in elf mirror but only 20% against undead which was really handicapping me. So I started whining at start, including stupid statements about the matchup (to lead the opponent to take it easier and do the strat that I want to face). With this and only with this I moved to 55-60% in the matchup. But you must consider that even though I had 20% I was very often close to winning, so the advantage I needed was very very slight.
A part from that, you can often know what your enemy will do just by chatting with him. 90% of the times, an enemy saying nothing, not even answering (as long as u don't try to get harassing and you don't insult him) will do an unorthodox strategy, often based on mass towers and base/workers raids. If they whine, they will more likely do a tower rush (50% of the time) or use it as a slight advantage like aforementioned but also use a cookie cutter strategy in the same time (other 50%). There are many small things as these that you can easily notice and use; even the nickname of your enemy can give you informations. As long as you don't rely on it but get ready to certain things, you will have a definitive strategic edge in the game. It is also good to remember the name (even write it down) in order not to get caught a second time by an unorthodox strategy, which a lot of people often abuse: if they do it once, they will do it again.

Unfortunately, since it's been some months since I really played actively or even just played, I don't see anymore of this kind of tricks to tell you, but you can easily find your own. But keep in mind that you must never rely on any information you get this way, just take them as indications and eventually change your scouting in order to make sure he's really doing that, but keep playing hard and safe, even though sometimes it is good and fun to gamble and win (even if you get caught some other times)!

About using tricky strategies/variations, I recommend you the audio commentary of sasuke, but keep in mind that you have to make your own experiences and that there is always room for improvement, in any style of playing. I would also suggest you that an enemy who's focussing a lot (too much) on creeping is easy to trick with an expansion, a straight tech, a special mix of units, or even riskier creeping, but actually faster than his own, and that an enemy always bull rushing you is easy to beat by taking the time to wait for him, going for his base, or making an expansion that you can hide from him well enough; some extra base defenses can also help in this case.

P.S. Once, I was always getting caught by human tower rush with Naga, and unable to counter it properly. I was then asking enemies how to counter it, but no one was answering, even in gaming forums, and the only people I knew in wc3 were all worse than myself, so I started to write enemies' names down, who were doing that and I simply waited for them with towers/pit lord or any kind of fun stuff that was a good counter to it but not a decent strategy at all. Guess what ? I always got tower rushed by them, even 3 or 4 times by the same enemies, not even changing a single thing in their strategy; that's kinda ironic, since the same guys tell you how you suck and that you cannot adapt, that you play cookie cutter and that they are just innovative. Priceless.

P.P.S. I enjoyed sharing these experiences with you and I hope you it will help you all picking up your own tricks.

I actually read it :D lol at the human tower rush with naga thing xd

Vs neutral hero tower rush you scout late altar, then send DH over to tavern and start hitting on the footman there. When he gets Naga out you skill evavsion or immolation and kill her, when he gets tinker you skill manaburn and burn him low before he reaches your base. While building additional Aows. Simple as that.
Game knowledge > all, no need to write papers.

=)) good one man

zechs jr lol

i remember that somebody tricked me on TR i played random i was undead he human he started to build towers at the beginning he did build a fast expansion and made there mass towers too like in his mainbase than he started to say things like "damn i have an expansion but when this imba destroyers are up i will loose undead is so imba" and so on first i wanted to go for wagons/fiends but when he wrote this things in made destroyer i destroyed to less towers and lost the game because of this tactical mistake
