Widescreen?
Hello there, people
I have just recently bought a widescreen monitor and have been having some problems adjusting WC3's resolution to fit the new aspect ratio.
Will I have to registry hack it? And is there any way around it being a bit stretched? I'm kinda annoyed with all these chubby units dancing around my screen. :p
Oh yeah, this monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050, so anything around that for WC3 would be totally sweet.
Thanks in advance

I've been playing with 22" wide since almost 2 years, havent done anything to the aspect ratio
@ hostilepulse
thats complete bullshit, it sucks maybe for quake/cs cause of the bad engine, but thats it. you should really get a clue about todays tft's. especially concerning wc3 there are only advantages when you play with a tft and dont believe those uninformed retards who always scream "blah tft sucks blah"
wc3 doesnt support widescreen-resolutions, you can type 1650x1080 in the registry and it will work, but it will be stretched since wc3 can display only 4:3-resolutions, fairness blahblah, to prevent an advantage by seeing more of the battlefield.
but its 100%playable when stretched, looks weird in the beginning, but after few matches it doesnt matter anymore.

actually there's an option in the driver control center (both ATI Catalyst & nVidia Forceware) that allow you to use the original screen ratio ingame (but i forget how T_T,I have no trouble with playing with a widescreen)
@ arceus
but as i mentioned above it works only with xp, under vista you have to use the scaling of the monitor, if you have a really good monitor he might be able to do it hardwarewise.
@ hotilepulse
in your first post maybe?

learn to read , i said widescreen sucks , not that tft sucks lol
well ye, it was hard at first using widescreen but know its perfectly fine ;)
And why does widescreen suck? It's okay. Of course in the beginning it was a bit strange watching thick wc3 models, but now when i look @ 4:3 warcraft resolution i think: wtf? why they all are so tall and thin?
I play on a 24'' widescreen ^^
¯\(°_o)/¯ @ owning widescreen but not knowing about fixed aspect ratio scaling.. I didn't know when I had to play with widescreen in a lan finals, but when I switched to widescreen at home I did some basic research :X.. Had some issues due to nvidia drivers being awful and not supporting it, had to install old beta drivers to fix it, but it's np since I basically only play wc3 anyway. My new monitor doesn't need graphic card drivers to do it I think, but my old one did.
My 24" widescreen did everything on its own, didnt do anything and it looks fine!!!
My 22" dont stretch the screen and my guess is that you got the same problem. I've heard some screen don't support it tho :/ Stretch it manuel by using your buttons on screen :D
Well, thanks for the answers everyone. I guess I'll just have to fiddle with forceware a bit more and try to find a way around this thing. I just find awkward to look at all those chubby little units.
And 22" widescreen works just fine with newer games. Even Counter-Strike works marvellously tbh. The only game I'm having trouble with is WC3. But then again, I totally forgot about fixed aspect ratios when I bought the thing.
I am glad all the new games don't present any trouble with this problem anymore. :)

Ye, forgot to tell that some screen dont support "older" games. Now I got everything. :)
