Warcraft III: MacBook Pro Heats?
Hello! I have a macbook pro 15", 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Go 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce 8600M GT 128 Mo, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2.
I installed WC3 TFT (1.21b) on my new MAC one month ago and I noticed the game is using +-+-90% of my processor. So my computer becomes extremely hot after +- 5-10min (even if I do not play). I know that macbook pro series easily heats but it is really strange that a game such WC3 uses almost all my CPU memory. Have you ever noticed this issue? Any suggestion or solutions are welcome...
Thank you.

Don't use MAC :p
wc3 doesnt work on macs that well.
Yep, happens to me.
Your fan should spin up, i dont know if there are any solutions, but for all the morons that say "dont use mac" or "wc3 doesnt work on macs" ... die. It works fine, 100+ fps minimum on a macbook pro compared to a locked 64fps on a windows machine.

Why should I need 100+ fps for WC3? It's not a FPS...
Except im not asking you to use a mac, am I?
I'm asking you to stop whining about stuff you have little to no idea about instead of answering the post question and posting stupid shit about not using macs.
If I wanted to use Windows, I could use bootcamp, but I don't...why? Windows doesnt suit the needs of a developer as much as a BSD based OS and Linux doesn't work well for multimedia applications.
Back to the point at hand, I do normally run SMCfancontroller aswell at 6000rpm for a while after playing wc3, just to cool the chip down, the only problem is that the machine goes from super silent, to World War levels of sound.

In case you didn't know, my post "Don't use mac :p" wasn't serious.
because sarcasm on the Internet works so well
That's why there is a ":p"
my 12 year old girl on myspace plugin must not have been working ^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^
Wc3 is limited to max. 65 frames. Hope you find a solution!
just search for smcFanControl , it lets you adjust the rps of your fans manuelly
it works fine on my imac, though the background sound in game is a bit weird.
I know that problem. MBP gets hot very fast.....with almost ANY game you play.
You could buy something like that http://www.tinxi.com/Foto/5010_1.jpg
(10-20€ @ ebay)
Or just live with it....I think its kind of normal.

nice find
Yea better buy that cooling bay to play wc3...
Hey guys! thank you for your feedbacks. I sent a mail to blizzard support and I just got an answer. Here it is:
Hello HuK,
It would be much more of a problem if our games weren't using your hardware to it's full, or close to, extent. Unfortunately, most MacBook Pros do run pretty hot as you are aware.
Are you seeing any adverse effects while playing War3? You could try using smcFanControl to monitor your fan speeds and increase the minimum fan speeds:

This will help the system run cooler.

Let me repeat: you send a mail to blizzard and got an answer? Well, im running out of words. . . it was a wc3 related question so either you faked the answer or something really big like a patch with nelf remove is coming.
wow..........whos dumb enough to get a mac seriously. mac is fucking garbage incarnate.
gratz to the winner of WEG Season 2 USA Qualifier
i'll show u what happens if you play wc3, doom3 etc on
MBP 2.4, 4GB ram, 256 VRAM (not even 2.2 with 128). 2-3 hours per a day for 5-6 months

looks pretty serious huh?
Took 4-5 months and this mbp wasn't the first victim as my PB12, PB15 had the similar
video problems.
Fortunately, every-time i had this kind of problem, I also had 'APPLECARE'!!!
so the repairing was free. simple they replaced the logic boards every time.
unfortunately, SMC doesn't work. it or other fans 'help',
but that doesn't mean that i 'solve' this problem
So, It's better not to play WC3 or other games which require a nice graphic card on your Mac
(esp, if you are using a laptop,,,,, better stop doing it now)
They will over-heat your laptop and will kill things eventually.
It also affects to your normal computer use like, even when u are surfing internet,
it easily gets really hot.
Anyway, that sort of things.
