Two kilos of American Burgers
Chapter 1: Two kilos of American Burgers
Poland vs USA, vodka vs bourbon, drinker vs fatty, Carmac vs Midway. I'm a true fan of Carmac, not Midway, I'm from Poland, not USA, I prefer to view SK rather than GotFrag. And I'm skinny like a god damn giraffe's leg but I do want to present a NON-BIASED opinion concering the recent cocaine post by mr Blichniarz and "I'm sorry" or more likely "We're sorry" response by mr Schmidt. The word biased is kind of important in this case, what Carmac is saying in his article is that Midway is biased towards CPL and that he blames others for something, knowing that his partners also have guilty conscience. What he is trying to prove is that mr Schmidt is an unfeeling, rude and thrifty eSports businessman, my comment to that is "OK". Who the hell on this world is not biased towards something, never lies, show me someone who is not selfish at all. Bring me such a person and I'm going to jump of my balcony, stand up, walk straight to Alaska and make a snowman over there. This was the first Carmac's writeup on SK, it was supposed to be a *bomb*, it was not. I mean Carmac is talking about sins that every single person living on this planed has on conscience. On the other hand I kind of understand his arguments, Midway made a mistake and that is undeniable fact but he managed to do a thing that in most cases would not happen, he said "I'm sorry". The question is, "is that enough?". My answer is, "of course it's not". I mean, oh my God mr Schmidt, Jezus loves you, you apologized, let's love each other and forget everything in peace. Oh cmon, with world going this way sooner or later Boris is going to kill my dog, apologize and go home, only because he did not like his brown eyes. Knowing my poor english skills, I've readen Midway's response three times in a row to understand it completely and still I kinda felt like, there is no explanation. Still finding myself in his shoes I'm quite sure that I would act exacly the same, because I at least try to understand business. Now straight to the end, what I have seen is not what I want to see in eSports. Basically this community exists because some dudez created things called games a while ago, concentrate on gaming not on blaming eachother. And yes I totally understand that this case concerns gaming, but I believe that every self-respecting citizen of this community knows that such things happen and they are NORMAL on this world. Conclusion?
I would love to drink some ice-cold tasty Polish vodka, eat a fat burger and listen to Frank Sinatra. Not ending up puking after such mix. Why? Because I love eSports.
NOTE: This column is not supposed to offend Carmac or Midway. If it did, Michal, Trevor, I'm sorry.
If you like my opinions, and would like to hear similiar ones about future gaming events, feel free to post your comment. If you think I'm talking rubbish, bullshit or however you want to call it, I would love to hear that from you. And sorry for my bad english.
Regards

but its really cool.
but its really cool.
lol. shouldnt have read it my friend.
Actually an interesting opinion here..
possibly, yet im not reading it. :>
:D try it!
Well ananke, ofcourse every single person has got skeleton in his/her closet, but that's not the issue. I believe you can interpret this situation in a huge variation of ways, and what I believe Carmac is talking about is the formal situation, not the informal. Ofcourse no person is perfect, we all make mistakes. Still, however, in a formal way, it's bad to Midway's reputation if he acuse someone (in this case GGL) of something which he knows is going on in his own business/company aswell. Since it was now found out, it makes Midway seem unreliable. I believe though that we have to take in concideration, just as you say, that Midway is trying to run a business and is ofcourse trying to crate a situation as good as possible for his business partners, while Carmac is a journalist who isn't actually running a business in the way Midway is (if I have understood the situation in a correct way).
Midway is part of a business called GotFrag, Carmac was a part of business called GGL. And I totally agree that it's bad to Midway's reputation, but still who did not know that such things happened and will happen in the future?
Also sorry for writing Carmac's surname wrong, it's Blicharz ofcourse.

Here are the facts from Carmac’s article:
-GotFrag posted an article about the GGL not paying prize money with Quotes from Jason Lake of coL and others.
-GotFrag researched a story about the CPL not paying yet couldn't get people to go on the record.
-Carmac submitted an article to GotFrag under an alias saying "The CPL didn't pay out prizes" with no quotes confirming it and even one saying they wouldn't talk about it from Sam from fnatic.
-GotFrag decided not to run this article because it didn't have sources.
-GotFrag continued to press players for quotes and sources.
-GotFrag decided that it would not post until players decided to support a story by providing quotes and accurate information.
GotFrag takes responsibility for not getting any of these players to go on the record sooner, that's our fault. But here's where I'm confused, how did we protect the CPL? The way I see it, the players are the ones who protected the CPL.

The question is, what is the reason that made players protect CPL. It's like saving your friend from a burning house and being stabbed by him at the same time, knowing he would do it anyway and still willing to help him. Who on this world follows such rules?
It's simple; they thought Angel would pay them. Angel made it a rule that if they talked out against the CPL they would forfeit their prize money. So Angel created a circle of protection.
If a team spoke out they forfeited their money. This stopped the press from saying anything about it without opening themselves up for libel which Angel could sue them. If a team/player did speak out Angel would simple claim they broke their rules and he didn't owe them anything.

More or less you also used a "circle of protection". You say that you couldn't post such article because players did not want to speak about it, as you say that's because they were limited by the 5.9 rule and I understand that. But what's the problem in posting an article without players quotes, it may sound senseless but I think it's not.
Basically it's like saying "I am not going to write an article about Moon(astronomy) because I can't go there".
Basically it's like saying "I am not going to write an article about Moon(astronomy) because I can't go there".
It's simple, because any journalist has a level of proof he must reach in order to justify a story. I guess you and the community have become so use to "blog" writing where you just attack anyone and everyone and hope that the story is true. GotFrag is more then a blog. We are a registered company like we said in the response with over 100 employees/volunteers.
If we were to post without quotes we leave ourselves libel in a court of law. Angel if he so wished could sue us for slander. He would win that case easy and GotFrag would either have to pay damages or be forced out of business. At the end of the day GotFrag because it operates in the same country as the CPL is subject to a lawsuit much easier then SK, ESR or etc.

Well, first of all I don't think that it would be a "blog"-styled article by GotFrag because as Carmac said you knew about the case(ofcourse if what he is saying is true). I also don't believe that you were the only person from GotFrag that knew about the case, and I don't think it was just like "We heard rumours". Next thing is, do you actually have to reveal player's identity if you post his quote, such things happen on TV all the time, they don't say anything about people they speak with, hide their faces etc. About Angel Munoz sueing GotFrag, I understand that company like GotFrag needs to take care about it's safetyness, but I find that hardly possible, not because of law rules but because of the relationship between GotFrag and CPL. Still as I said before I don't want to stand behind Carmac and his article, and I totally understand what GotFrag did and even though it was a mistake I'm sure I would act the same.
