After a very succesful ESWC 2005 compLexity shocked the eSports community by dropping Justin "Sunman" Summy, arguable one of the hottest players in the States at that time ( news ).
Official statements indicated that Sunman didn't have the time nor desire to continue practicing a lot and that this was hurting the team. His replacement was Derek "Exodus" Heidinger, although being a very good player himself the team didn't continue their winning streak which they build up with Sunman.
In recent months they lost their position as the number one US team to Team 3D who became a serious force to reckon with after the recruitments of Mikey "method" So and Griffin "shaGuar" Benger. Last week Team 3D again beat coL, this time at the Digital Life event in New York, and this seemed to be the last drop. Jason Lake decided it was time for a change and took back Sunman who has not been playing CS for the last three months. Nevertheless the team hopes to get back that all important teamplay and coordination which is needed to be the number one team in the world.
Here is what Jason Lake had to say about the situation:
The Syndicate is thrilled to announce that we have come to terms with Justin "Sunman" Summy that have resulted in his return to the coL Family and competitive Counter-Strike.
Justin was an integral part of our success in 2005 and we are excited to include him in our run for the CPL Winter Championship. Allow him a bit to knock some dust off his mouse then prepare for some great CS matches!
It is with sadness that we also announce the departure of our very good friend Derek "Exodus" Heidinger. Derek is one of the best people I have ever met in E-Sports. A top notch player and the nicest person you'll ever meet. I want to make it very clear that Derek's departure has nothing to do with a lack of playing ability or skill. It came down to what person had the best "in-game" chemistry with this squad. We'd like to thank Derek very much for all his hard work, dedication and friendship. He will be missed dearly.
Stay tuned as our CS team works overtime to bounce back from recent 2nd place setbacks. While there may be no disgrace dropping to a world-class team like Team3D, The Syndicate is not happy with 2nd place- never has been, never will be. We will spend the next two months preparing full-time for CPL. Wish us luck!
