The CPL has made a surprising announcement today concerning one of the World Tour stops.
Apparently, they decided to cancel Germany's stop due to their sponsors which had critical logistical challenges with the proposed venue but also due to the use of the tour's game Painkiller, which is rated mature-game in Germany. The CPL is still negotiating for a new stop in Europe that would take place between the UK's stop in September and the end of the year.
The official statement can be found below:
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) announced today that after careful consideration and extended discussions with its strategic partners and sponsors it has canceled the German World Tour stop.
The CPL partners encountered critical logistical challenges with the proposed venue, and with the use of Painkiller (a Mature-rated game) in Germany.
The CPL is in negotiations for a new stop in Europe that would take place after the United Kingdom stop, and before the end of the year.
Competitors that had confirmed air travel for Germany and need special assistance should contact Scott Valencia immediately via email. More information about the new World Tour stop will be available at a later date.
The CPL World Tour, the largest, first-ever, year-long competitive tour spotlighting the growing new sport of video game competitions, is primarily sponsored by Intel. Another leading sponsor of the World Tour is NVIDIA.
Three tours are to go and one to be announced before the awaited World Tour Grand Final:
United Kingdom Stop - September
To Be Announced
China Stop - October
Chile Stop - November
The new World Tour stop should be announced in the upcoming days.

Cause it's my job?
only the Carrier did everything wrong ..
So you should know about laws earlier.
Still not a bad news, the Games Convention features a lot of different esport events.
but its not hard to make it, they need a closed area to make that event on gc and i am pretty sure they could find a room there, but there wont be much as much publicity COUSE
---->
#56 no one under 18 years is allowed to enter that closed area
thats how its made on lan partys and other events and there are no special rights for gc :)
"if you had some fucking brains you would know that the watchers dont have to be 18 years old to enter.. k thnx"
You obviously don't know the German law. They _HAVE_ to be 18 years or older. Get your facts right! + #76

I'm sure the CPL known this "problem" before, otherwise their organizational entity 'd be utterly disastrous. + #76
I have to agree that we have some excessive laws, but the protection of minors keeps at least some kiddies away.
K THX e-cools!
vote 4 cpl austria!
edit: Brussels, Belgium (Exhibition Center) would own ;>
gc lasts for 4 days and got up to 100k visitors .. never 900k, not even cebit got 500k+
There would be enough visiters, because gc has around 100.000 visiters in 4 days and that's a lot...
4 stops, two have been cancelled, one was in the shadow of ESWC and the other was part of BYOC tournement.
n1 Angel.

As you refer to me directly I'll respond directly to you.
The decision to cancel Germany was part of the operational staff process (led by Scott Valencia) and no considerations about other activities at the venue was even contemplated.
Also, I think when you state that another stop was canceled you are referring to the one month delay of the Turkey Stop because of adverse weather conditions.
Allow me to share something with you, it's easy to sit on a computer and type away thinking you always have the right answers - it's infinitely more difficult to put together a World Tour with a $1,000,000 in cash prizes through different countries with different laws, etc.
But, if an organization has a misstep while putting together something no one has done before, and then the community turns on them to point how worthless their efforts are - what's the point of doing it to begin with?
Unfortunately public opinion is polarized these days with people vying for their favorite esports organization - this unfortunately is the most destructive trend in esports today.
I'm not saying that people should not point out our mistakes but to come to a public forum and state that CPL holds events in the shadows of others or made decisions based on what other organizations are (or are not) doing is untruthful and I'm sure a bit hurtful to the dozens of people working worldwide on the CPL World Tour.
do it! :D
Bad step for CPL = True.
Remember, we have ESL with EPS, CSCL and ENC; Games Convention; Cebit; Giga Liga; NGL; 3 E-Sports TV-Stations ( 4 with ESL-TV) etc.
So it isn't a defeat for me...
The german laws are hard, but it is easy to organize a 18+ lan and 18+ shows (look at Games Convention or Cebit or all other Offline Finals with 18+ Games). Sometimes i think the strict laws are very good ... look at some brainfucked kiddies ;)
Maybe I was a bit harsh as I’m fully behind the world tour concept, as it can only be better next year and I appreciate the amount of work needed to pull something so big off. But without it getting into ESWC vs CPL battle, you're usually awesome CPL summer event was in the shadows of ESWC in terms of Counter-Strike, end of.
So surely you can see why people say it.
By the way when organizing this multi-million pound world tour didn't you research into the Countries where you would be holding the stop(s)? PK's always been 18+ and Germany have enforced these laws for a couple of years now.

As you are now a member of another league I'll offer you the courtesy of a response. There was never a confirmed Taiwan Stop just a comment on our forums that we were planning one.
Unfortunately, officials of the Chinese government informed us that we could not hold an event in Taiwan because China does not recognize Taiwan as an independent country. We obviously felt that China was an important stop for the tour and suspended our plans for Taiwan.
CyRus,
I think that ESWC held a great CS tournament and the two CS tournaments CPL held were not as shabby as everyone expected them to be. Right SK? :) Again polarization and divisions do not help to advance the sport and in fact hurt the entire process. If all esports organizations hold great events it is better for everyone.
the public don't see it that way, right or wrong doesn't really matter.
Thank you very much for being responsive as... always actually. I believe in the early press releases the CPL had ten World Tour stops.
Now let me quote one of CPL's own news items:
So today, the CPL has announced the new 2005 "CPL World Tour" with one million dollars in cash prizes, the largest cash prize ever. The tour will include ten worldwide stops.
As far as I know, they first announced a tour stop in April that was supposed to take place in Taiwan, then it changed to Japan and then it changed to Taiwan again. A few weeks after it, I noticed that it was completely gone, even without a real press release.
