A Column On Imbalances, PK and CS:S
Is using imbalances lame? Was it a bad choice for the CPL to pick games such as Painkiller or Counter-Strike:Source? As it might sound like a time for a quick 'yes', the truth is not so simple. A snippet from the article:
"Greece won the European Football Championship in a way I haven't seen before. After scoring a goal, they started packing up in their defence zone and using only two or three players on offence when they got the ball. In gaming terms, this would be called lame. It might look boring, or even be boring, but hey - they got the job done. Even being a mediocre team on paper, they won the title. Same kind of events have happened in gaming. Especially in RTS games, these things are considered very lame by the majority of players."

#5 Here's what Andy 'gellehsak' Ryder has to say about PK:
In PainKiller, there is no will to learn how to play a map, no will how to learn to move, no will how to learn to comeback, and a very low skill ceiling. Why? Because you have a spawn weapon that does 200 damage and up to 250 damage, movement that takes one minute of running around to get down perfectly (at least, all that you need in the game), and maps that don't exactly endorse control, but rather, whoever can rush the gold armor areas at X time, since the timer gives you the time when it spawns, and the ga areas are such a burden when it comes to having someone just go through teleporters rocketjumping to gain instantaneous speed. Sometimes games just feel like a free for all, or just whoever can hit the most stakes on the map without even needing to control any weapons or armors.
I kinda agree with him :)
These are the settings I use, and I have never encountered hitbox problems:
cl_interp 0.01
cl_interpolate 0
rate 25000 (15000-20000 on laggy servers)
cl_cmdrate 101 (75-85 on laggy servers)
cl_updaterate 101 (65-85 on laggy servers)
cl_smooth 0
voilá! :)
