The fifth week of the Championship Series is about to go live! Tune in to see what exciting matches await! We have four clashes today as
Evil Geniuses take on
DragonBorns and
fnatic , while our very own
SK Gaming will face
against All authority and
DragonBorns . Will the French upset SK? Will the Geniuses avenge the Dragons and will Fnatic and EG give us the powerhouse clash we all await? The answers to these questions you will find below!
Game one:
Evil Geniuses vs.
DragonBorns
Bans
Picks
The game had a quiet start with the only surprise being Krepo taking a page out of the Koreans and opting for a support Elise. A lane-swap by DragonBorns made Wickd's task of farming up a living nightmare, while Spontexx felt quite comfortable going against Yellowpete and Krepo. Minutes later, both teams exchanged a turret with a 3 man dive strategy, however thanks to the brilliant juke-trades of Spontexx's Wukong, Dragonborns were able to grab the second top turret of their opponents while denying their own.
Froggen and the band replied with a dragon pick and a small gold lead. The tenth minute mark hit and we still had no first blood and a small gold "lead" by the Geniuses. A minute and a half later, action ensued when Krepo seemingly got caught out of position near mid. Dragonborns went in pursuit, but excellent decisions by Froggen and Snoopeh got them 4 kills in exchange for one. This definitely threw DB off their game as throughout the next couple of minutes they gave kills to EG by constantly getting caught out of position. Despite their obvious lead, EG stuck to their guns by playing carefully.
Just as things seemed grim, a terrible engage by EG gave HosaN a quadra-kill and a baron buff for DB. However, in their efforts to snatch the second bottom turret of their opponents, they wasted the baron buff with HosaN being the only man alive after the slaughter. Getting their momentum back, EG pressured the enemy by besieging the middle turret. Catching them out of position once more, Evil Geniuses aced DragonBorns and sealed the first match of the day in their favour!
Winner:
Evil Geniuses
Game two:
SK Gaming vs.
against All authority
Bans
Picks
All were taken aback by the champion choices. We had an unexpected switch as HurqBot went Elise jungle and Ocelote opted for a Jarvan IV mid against Karthus. On the other side, we saw a good old Karthus pick for Freddy122 and Nono finally switching to Vayne, a pick that would become instrumental further in the game.
The game started with a lane swap by the French. However, SK managed to adjust pretty quickly by taking down two turrets and a first blood going towards CandyPanda in exchange for their top turret. This spearheaded them into the gold lead. They continued their aggressive approach as an invasion of the enemy jungle turned to a kill onto Freddy122, solidifying their dominance.
Minutes later, a small exchange went in aAa's favour and that marked the beginning of the end for SK. Every single other engagement either finished with SK on the back foot or aAa trading even and punishing their opponents in some other way. This took its toll on them as they somehow couldn't figure out a good engagement and shockingly, there was a point in the game where Kev1n was 50 creeps behind Kha'Zix - a very scary situation to be indeed. The French completely asserted their dominance after HurqBot got caught on mid and aAa stomped SK with Nono's Vayne becoming stronger than ever.

Realizing their advantage, aAa started "the baron dance" and awaited SK to take the bait. They didn't have to wait long and happily for them, the fight went perfectly - ace, a quadra kill for Vayne and baron buff. From that point on, it was just a matter of time as they had to siege SK's base. With their backs against the wall, SK fiercely defended and even managed to win a couple of skirmishes after a greedy display by Nono(who was 11/0/3 and decided to dive 2 SK players in their base). However, the French defensive line proved too strong.
The final nail in the coffin was a miscommunication from SK, as Ocelote engaged the aAa team, while his team did not immediately follow. Against All Authority, swept their opponents and comfortably took the game.
Winner:
against All authority
Unfortunately at the start of the game between EG and Fnatic the ESL studio was plagued by internet issues. After about 30-45 minutes of trying to resolve it - the organizers announced that they did not want to strain the players and decided to call it a day. The rest of the matches will be played tomorrow so stay tuned for the continuation of our coverage!
