ImageIf you are someone who enjoys cheering for the underdogs, keep an eye out for Team MRN. They have proven themselves as Season 3 contenders after upsetting the competition in the LCS NA Qualifiers; being the only team to qualify from Riot’s 32-team online tournament.

History – Foundation and Evolution

US MRN was founded in June 2012 by Martin “MARN” Phan. At the time, the teams roster consisted of Marn, TooPro, me emo, US Nick 'Nickwu' Smith and US Clark 'Clakeyd' Smith. The team was disband after MLG Anaheim 2012, after losing 2-0 to both US Team SoloMid and US vVv Gaming . On August 1st, US MRN reformed with AtomicN, ecko, MegaZero, Marn and ClakeyD. However, once again the team would disband with US Patrick 'Megazero' Glinsman's departure in September who wanted to focus on college.

It was not until two weeks before Riot’s online qualifiers, December 30th, when a new roster was solidified; US Clark 'Clakeyd' Smith, US Patrick 'Megazero' Glinsman, US Dylan 'Atomicn' Newton, US Sung Moo 'Heartbeat' Lim, and US Tyler 'Ecco' Spesick. These changes were made because US Tyler 'Eckoh' Orr, team MRN’s previous AD carry, moved to DirtNap Gaming and US Nick 'Nickwu' Smith, team MRN’s previous Top laner, had moved to Chuuper’s Troopers.

US MRN defied the odds by being the only team to qualify into the Season 3 North American League Championship Series from Riot’s 32-team online tournament. In the Season 3 Qualifiers, Team MRN advanced out of Group D with a 2-0 record on Day One, taking out Cloud9 and Azure Gaming. Then on Day Two, they dropped a best of 3 series to The Brunch Club 0-2, pushing them to Day Three elimination. Fortunately Team MRN recovered on the final day by taking down Meat Playground 2-1, followed by an impressive 2-0 victory over Dirt Nap Gaming, and securing the 5th and final qualifying spot.

“You can't just go in, and be the best team. We are still very new, and we have a lot of room to grow”- Marn

Active Roster

ImageUS Clark 'Clakeyd' Smith is the active Jungler for Team MRN. He was originally the Jungler for Just Your Average Joes until he left the team in 2012. When he subbed for Epik Gamer at IPL4, OneBadBrad then filled his position in Just Your Average Joes. ClakeyD was part of the original Team MRN founded in June 2012, and continues his dominance in the jungle. He is known for his aggressive champion pool including, Jarvan IV, Nocturne and Shen. During LCS NA Qualifiers, ClarkeyD landed the dirtiest Smite steal playing as Nocturn against Dirt Nap Gaming pushing him and his team to a 2-0 victory and qualifying for Season 3 League Championship Series.

US Patrick 'Megazero' Glinsman is the Top laner for Team MRN. As a former Dota player, his knowledge of game mechanics is extraordinary. He played during the beta of League of Legends, and reached top ten multiple times. He held 1 in the 3v3 ladder in Season 1 for over 4 months, then switched to Bloodline Champions and came first in Dreamhack Summer 2011 on Team Orz. Keep an eye out for MegaZero’s play as Olaf in Top Lane. His 1v1 dominance is evident and could be seen all throughout the LCS NA Qualifiers.

Image
US Dylan 'Atomicn' Newton is the Support player for Team MRN. AtomicN is a very consistent Support player. Often playing Sona and Taric, he has found great synergy with teammate Heartbeattt. They had known each other prior to the teams formation, however it is always hard for new team creations to immediately connect with each other so quickly. His map awareness and timing on ward placement is respectable; keep an eye out for AtomicN as he helps to Support his team in Season 3.

Image
US Tyler 'Ecco' Spesick is the AP Mid player for Team MRN. Coming from a competitive Starcraft II and Halo 2 background, he hopes to bring fire to this recently formed NA team. Ecco replaced team founder Martin “Marn” Phan, who now sits on the bench as team owner. When Team MRN drafted him, Ecco was only recognized for excellence in a few Champions, like Katarina and Anivia. Team MRN is his first pro gaming team and he hopes to prove to the big NA teams, like TSM, DIG, and CLG that he is more than ready to perform at a higher level.

Image
US Sung Moo 'Heartbeat' Lim is the current AD Carry for Team MRN. He was picked up after Ecko (14244 tyler Orr), team MRN’s previous AD carry, moved to Dirt Nap Gaming when Team MRN had disband in September. Heartbeattt is the playmaker for this team, he calls the shots when it comes to team fights and his style of play controls the tempo of the game. Look out for his Urgot and Ezreal play seen in the majority of Team MRN’s LCS NA Qualifier dominance.

MRN MRN MRN!

Join the cheer for the underdogs, and cheer on US MRN as they compete against the highest level of competition in the Season 3 League Championship Series.
