Next Saturday the Grand Finals of the Collegiate Starleague will take place in Los Angeles at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The hosts will be Day[9] and megumixbear. The Collegiate Starleague is the first notable regular tournament that involves only players who currently attend college. The idea is to make eSports a college sport just like football, baseball or other popular kinds of sports in the United States and other countries all over the world to establish it as a viable thing to do to finance one's studies. If this trend would be picked up by other organisers as well, more college students might decide to continue playing a lot of Starcraft 2 or one of the other games that are represented in the CSL or equivalent leagues to get a scholarship or maybe professional teams could even have collegiate rosters.
It would certainly be a big step for the general acceptance of eSports so we can only hope that more leagues like AZUBU's CSL will develop.
The current season will end next Saturday, the 16th of February, with only four teams remaining. The
University of California from Berkeley, with EG's
Conan 'Suppy' Liu on their team,
Aarhus University, the
University of Washington, with Light eSports'
Lok-Yin 'KawaiiRice' Kwong on their team, and
Chunnam University. With only a few internationally successful players in participating colleges at the moment this is also a good opportunity for less known players to make a name for themselves.
