ImageIn the third part of "Living the Dream" we cover one of the most famous teams not only in NA, but in the whole world - Team SoloMid. Whether you love them or hate them, make sure to read on.

The Creation of Team SoloMid

Team SoloMid is a North American League of Legends team formed by US Andy 'Reginald' Dinh and US Dan 'DanDinh' Dinh. The original roster back in 2011 consisted of US Brandon 'Saintvicious' DiMarco , US 'FeedFest' , CA Shan 'Chaox' Huang , CA Brian 'TheOddOne' Willey , and KR Choi 'Locodoco' Yoon-sub . Before they could even make their first major appearance they were shaken up by several roster changes: SaintVicious left for CLG, Reginald joined as their AP Mid, FeedFest left, and US Alex 'Xpecial' Chu and US Christian 'TheRainMan' Kahmann joined the fold to finish up the new roster.

Season 1 and 2

In July 2011 Team SoloMid took first place in the group stage at the National ESL Premier League Season 1 by defeating several top teams such as Counter Logic Gaming, LowELO, and TeamLiquid. It was at the semifinals however that TSM lost to unRestricted, and they were forced to play against Rock Solid in a fight for third place, which TSM won. The next event Team SoloMid participated in was the ESL Major Series - Season VIII. They defeated LowLandLions 2-1 in the semifinals, but were swept by SK Gaming in the finals to take home second place.

After the ESL Major Series TSM would continue on to participate in various competitions, their biggest achievements coming with a 2nd place at IEM Gamescom, where they lost in the final to their rivals Counter Logic Gaming, and first place at MLG Providence. In Providence TSM lost to Epik Gamer, but they weren't out of the running yet as they were able to qualify for the grand finals by advancing through the loser´s bracket with a victory over Dignitas to get another shot at the finals against the team who beat them earlier. TSM was able to come out victorious, securing their greatest achievement of their young career. With a new resolve it was in October 2011 the team moved into a gaming house in New York City, USA, and it was a major step that paved the way for other teams in the North American scene to start taking League of Legends to the next level of gaming.

In Season 2 Team SoloMid attended the National ESL Premier League Season 2 where they would face off against Counter Logic Gaming once again in the winner´s bracket final, and in a story that fuels the talks of rivalries and competition TSM was once again defeated by CLG and placed third in the tournament. A major international competition for the upstart North Americans was the IEM Season VI tournament in Kiev where they took the 2nd place by defeating SK Gaming, Team Curse, and White Lotus in the group stage before defeating Dignitas in the playoffs. Their only loss came in the finals against one of the rising European stars: Moscow Five, now known as Gambit Gaming. In March 2011
US Christian 'TheRainMan' Kahmann resigned from Team SoloMid due to conflicts of interest, and he was replaced by one of the other players who lived in the TSM house, a player known for his aggressive play style and dominance in solo queue: the infamous US Marcus 'Dyrus' Hill. After their roster change TSM won the Leaguecraft ggClassic tournament by defeating Team Curse, Raise Your Weapons, Jpak and Friends and 4Not.Fire. Their dominance would not end there as they would then go on to start a dominance in the tournament scene that has not been seen before nor since.

As Season 2 went on Team SoloMid won a string of important tournaments. They dominated IPL 4 in Las Vegas where they finally overcame their Season 1 rivals and defeated CLG in the finals. They then went on to flatten the competition at the Reign of Gaming International Invitational, the MLG Spring Championship (where they would defeat CLG again), and GESL. TSM took out CLG.Black, Curse, and Team Green Forest in the group stage of GESL to earn a place in the grand finals where they bested CLG.Black once again to take home first place. TSM´s winning streak was interrupted at the MLG 2012 Summer Arena by one of the best at the moment Korean teams: Azubu Blaze. The Korean team was able to win all three games against Team SoloMid in a sweep that showed the top NA team's weaknesses when compared to the international scene. Even though TSM had a strong showing in the group stage, winning against Team Curse and Team Black, they advanced to the grand final to face Azubu Blaze and lose once again to them.

How the Dream Came True

In August 2012 TSM qualified for the Season 2 World Championships by defeating Dignitas in the grand final of the Season 2 NA Regional Finals. At the Season 2 World Championships in Los Angeles their run was cut woefully short, and TSM was slaughtered by Azubu Frost in the quarterfinal round. They placed the 5th-8th place and took home 75,000 USD.

Top 3 Achievements
1.: 1st place at the North Americam Regional Finals Season 2
2.: 1st place at the IPL 4 in Las Vegas
3.: 1st place at MLG 2012 - Spring Championship

Current Roster

US Marcus 'Dyrus' Hill - The Toplane
Dyrus is the player with the most experience in Team SoloMid, playing League of Legends competitively since the beta. Starting as the support for All or Nothing, Dyrus changed to the toplane as he joined Epik Gamer and became the first streamer to acquire massive popularity - top viewership of upwards of 30 thousand viewers. Dyrus is known for his laid back and nonchalant attitude and of course his feared top lane aggression and prowess. His Singed play is legendary, his Vladimir was feared to the point he was unstoppable, and his Jax is also well known (dating to pre-nerf "dodge" Jax). During the Season 2 Playoffs he leaked two vital pieces of information about Team Dignitas' strategy to CLG EU prior to their Group Stage Match which caused him a rift with Reginald. Funfact: Marcus nearly burned down the TSM gaming house in a microwave accident.

CA Brian 'TheOddOne' Willey - The Jungler
Brian has played video games for most of his life, as he came from Sega Genesis, Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Phantasy Start Online to League of Legends. He played for Haters Make Us Famous before he was picked up by TSM. TheOddOne was known for several things in his early career such as his Annie gameplay, and he helped popularize the idea of counterjungling with his Nunu and he even introduced Maokai to the competitive scene. In Season 1 he was called the best jungler in the game, a humbling and honorable title for anyone. Brian detests Yordles and Ezreal players, and is known to often wear his Teemo hats when he is streaming. Funfact: Brain only ate microwave food before he started to manage a healthy diet.

US Andy 'Reginald' Dinh – The Midlane Image
Reginald is one of the founders of TSM, he started playing for All or Nothing together with Dyrus, but as the team split up due to a conflict between Reginald and his brother Dan he placed himself in the midlane of Team SoloMid. Reginald is known for his very aggressive play style, roaming and attempting for kills in laning phase. His favourite champs are Karthus, Cassiopeia and Gragas, but with the changes of the meta and the coming of Season 3 only time will tell if he will find a new love. After the Season 2 World Championship he announced his retirement from professional League of Legends, but in a change of heart he renounced his own claim and decided to remain the midlaner for TSM. Funfact: His teammates call him °Rageinald° due to his temper.

CA Shan 'Chaox' Huang - The AD Carry
Before Chaox became one of the most known AD carrys in League of Legends he was a former pro player in Dota, World of Warcraft, and Heroes of Newerth. He started gaming when he was 3 years old and started out on the SNES. Chaox joined Team SoloMid after he played both with and against Reginald in solo queue, and was first assigned to playing the support role for Locodoco. After Locodoco left TSM Chaox took his position as the AD carry. His favourite champions are Caitlyn and Ezreal, but he is also known for his Pantheon in the early months of his career. Funfact: Chaox held both solo queue 1st and 2nd positions with his main and smurf during pre-season 3 on the NA servers.

US Alex 'Xpecial' Chu - The Supporter
Xpecial played for Defy All Odds before joining TSM. He is the quietest member, but also perhaps the best player on the team, often having the responsibility of managing and creating opportunities for the entire team. In solo queue he is one of the best AP mid players, and he even outplayed Reginald when going head to head in solo queue. At IPL4 in Las Vegas he did three top lane 1v1 games against his teammate Dyrus and won all three of them.
