Project > NiP, Project into final

By Nick 'nickh' Hamilton

After numerous weeks of top quality Counter-Strike being played in the third season of the World E-Sports Games in Korea, we've now arrived at the final stage of this prestigious tournament. The tournament began with twelve of the world's finest teams, now eight weeks and thirty invigorating games on, the teams have been reduced to a mere four. Project_kr, wNv, NiP and team9 are those mighty four who have fought tremendously to make it all this way. These four teams will be continuing their fight for victory again over these next few weeks, starting with the semi-finals this weekend. The four teams have been matched up for their semi-final game based on their final standing in the previous group stage, and this gives us two pretty amazing fixtures: wNv vs team9, and NiP vs Project_kr. The matches will be played in a best-of-three format, and will both be played on separate days. The first match will be wNv vs team9 - which will be played this Saturday, with the NiP vs Project_kr match being played on Sunday - for full fixture details, see below. We wish the best of luck to all four teams left in the tournament! Along with this coverage, SK|iantje has analysed in some detail each of the four final teams' progress so far in the WEG 3 tournament. These analyses include the team's full set of results from throughout the season, and also a detailed description of the team's performance. NiP came into WEG Season 3 as big favourites because of their name, they played great at the Qualifier but still they didn't perform at their best and people still had their doubts. In Korea however NiP has silenced all critics so far by beating all of the European favourites who were to challenge them. None of them came close though and it was the surprising Korean team Project_kr that gave NiP their hardest run for their money. The fact that the only team that challenged NiP so far is now also the opponent in the semi finals makes it all the more interesting for the viewers. Was NiP lucky winning that match earlier this season, or did Project_kr just have a lucky day ? We will find out soon.

NiP's opponents in the semi finals of WEG Season 3 will be the surprisingly hometeam Project_kr. Looking at their first 5 results people would say they don't deserve their semi final spot, but then came that all important final game against NoA. Project_kr stunned the world and maybe even themselves and dominated NoA sending one of the top European teams home and earning themselves the right to go up against NiP for a place in the Grand Final. Looking at the overall picture we could say they don't stand a chance but their close game against NiP and their convincing win against NoA could be signs of a huge upset coming our way.

SK|iantje's analysis of:
team9
- jungelbobo, oops, prb, REAL & xione
team9 were the team to beat after their dominant performance at CPL UK but soon after they started to show signs of weakness. They barely managed to qualify for the WEG finals after a very intense game versus Asylum. Once in Korea they took a heavy beating from wNv but still managed to move onto the second group stage after taking revenge on Asylum. In the second group stage they suffered two defeats at the hands of Serious Gaming and NiP, because of a better round ratio however they managed to get the second spot in their group allowing them to continue in the tournament. wNv delt them their biggest loss in quite some time in the first group stage so team9 will surely come prepared and willing but will it be enough ?

SK|iantje's analysis of:
wNv
- 44`alex, JJungle, mikk, sakula & tK
Right after the first game against Asylum people started to notice these guys, word at the hotel was that all of the teams had suffered huge losses against wNv in practice games and they were a team to be watched. As the season progressed they beat teams such as team9 and NoA with relative ease and their fame grew. The fans are craving for a match up against NiP and if all goes as planned we could be seeing that in the Grand Final of WEG Season 3. Together with NiP the Chinese are the only unbeaten team but this also means that both haven't met each other in an official game yet which can only make us wonder what the true strengths are from both teams. First up is team9 however and wNv should be careful not to lose their touch with the ground and take it one step at a time. They dominated team9 before but this time there is more pressure and likely a better prepared opponent then last time.
