Petri Hämälä, organisator of the eSports tournaments at Assembly, is taking a break after arranging the competitive part of Assembly for ten years. In an interview Assembly Head of eSports Petri Hämälä has stated that he is currently not motivated to organise any further tournaments at Assembly after following this hobby for ten years. Therefore there will definitely not be a big eSports event at Assembly Winter this year.
With no replacement in sight and the hosts unable or unwilling to organise a contest the size of past competitions at their event the future of eSports at Assembly is unsure. With four tournaments Assembly was a relatively small but certainly much appreciated addition to the Starcraft 2 scene. A total of 70000$ in prizes were handed out to the top players and not only was the competition at Assembly always interesting to watch but due to it being a LAN it also had a relatively relaxed atmosphere.

At Assembly Summer 2012 hosts
Geoff 'iNcontrol' Robinson and
James '2GD' Harding, famous for his black humor, along with two more casterteams entertained the live audience with serious casting but also not so serious jokes which could probably not have been told live on camera at other events without consequences for the casters, very much to the amusement of the on-stream and local viewers.
Because of their unique character Assembly tournaments will surely be missed but there still is hope. Petri Hämälä has not yet spoken his final word about his future plans in eSports. According to him he would probably be bored in his free time without putting up these events so a return for the Assembly Summer 2013 or other future events is possible.
I personally believe that a man, who's fascination for eSports is so big that he arranged this many tournaments in his free time for ten years, can't completely let go of this "hobby".
