Ret suspended from IPL 5

ImageOne of Team Liquid's most known players and one of the best Zerg players from Europe won't play any matches at IPL 5. He will only be watching from the sides as he has been benched due to improper behaviour.

NL Joseph 'Ret' de Kroon has been participating in the DreamHack Winter 2012 along with some other Starcraft II players. However he was not able to advance to the playoffs. One of his game series was against RO Silviu 'NightEnD' Lazar and as Ret lost the first game there was no chance for him to survive the group stage. Once Ret paused after losing the first game and realised that there was no way for him to advance, he decided to play in a way which would cause him another loss.

Ret decided to rally a lot of Zerglings and Banelings straight into Protoss fire with no chance to survive. At the same time he took five bases. Apparently this is no way to win, as Liquid's NL Victor 'Nazgul' Goossens stated. Because of that Ret has been suspended, as he "clearly showed he was not trying to win". As this behaviour is not in accordance with the codex of Team Liquid, the suspension seems to be the only way and option for the team to punish it.

Statement by Liquid`Nazgul
"When Ret agreed to participate at DreamHack, he signed up with knowledge of the format, and knowing that there was the possibility of playing matches without meaning. Professionals in traditional and electronic sports alike will often find themselves in those situations. For example, it is a standard part of the final weeks of any large league competition – be it football, basketball or Brood War's Proleague – where teams in the middle of the pack have nothing more to lose or gain.

For a variety of reasons, it can be hard for players to give full effort in those situations. However, it is a competitor's responsibility to respect the tournament, fans, team, and sponsors by showing professionalism and sportsmanship even in those situations. Unfortunately, Ret showed no intention of trying to win his match, falling far beneath what was expected of him as a professional. We apologize to DreamHack and Liquid fans for not giving them the matches they deserved, and to our sponsors for representing them poorly."

The first IPL 5 match for Ret would have been against KR Choi Byung 'YoDa' Hyun. As Ret has been suspended, Yoda will walk straight to round 2. 100.000 $ are ready to be taken once the action of IPL 5 kicks off on November 29.
