Season 3 Preseason Item Changes

ImageA collection of all the confirmed item changes for Summoner's Rift in the works for Season 3.

With the conclusion of Season 2 and big changes to the League of Legends drawing near it's time to sit down and enjoy an early Christmas with a slew of new items, speculations, and other stocking stuffers from our favorite Riot Staff. While some of this information spans over the last couple of weeks, here is a detailed list of item changes, removals, and upgrades that have been talked about and confirmed as tentative by Reds on the League of Legends forums. I'll do my best to cover all of the changes to Summoner's Rift, but as anyone at Riot HQ would tell you: nothing is final until it goes live.

Here is a comprised list of additions of new items and tweeks to current items.

Summoner's Rift

The Black Cleaver – The Bruitalizer + Ruby Crystal

• +45 Attack Damage
• +10% Cooldown Reduction
• +10 Armor Penetration
• Passive: Dealing physical damage to an enemy reduces their Armor by 5% for 6 seconds. This effect stacks up to 5 times on the same target.

Now an item to better suit bruisers, the Black Cleaver has had its attack speed removed in favor of the CDR and armor penetration of The Brutalizer. With the addition of the passive and the changes to how Flat and Percent armor penetration is applied this could very well be a core item for some AD bruisers. Ranged AD champions such as Urgot (ticking damage on his E) and Draven (ticking damage on his passive) might also be able to make full benefit of the new Black Clever passive.

Eleisa's Miracle

• +10 Health per 5 seconds
• +15 Mana per 5 seconds
• Removed Tenacity
• Unique Passive - Aid: Your Heal, Clairvoyance and Revive cooldowns are reduced by 20%
• Unique Passive: If you gain 3 levels while holding Eleisa's Miracle, you gain 10 HP/5, 15 MP/5 and the Aid Passive permanently and the item disappears from your inventory.

An often forgotten item, Eleisa's Miracle has been revamped so that it's more than just a 900 Elo Superstar item. With the passive CDR to Heal, Clairvoyance, and Revive it's easy to see how Riot is trying to open up other options than the restrictive Flash/Exhaust support summoners we see almost every match, and with its second passive it will open up a ward slot for those that buy it prior to level 16. While it might not take precedent over Shurelya's it gives supports the option to build a second Philosopher's Stone once either item has been crafted.

Tear of the Goddess

• +250 Mana
• +7 Mana Regen per 5 seconds
• UNIQUE Passive – Mana Charge: Each time you spend Mana, your maximum Mana increases by 4 (3 second cooldown).
• Bonus Mana: 0/750

Archangel's Staff

• +250 Mana
• +60 Ability Power
• +10 Mana Regen per 5 seconds
• UNIQUE Passive – Insight: +(3% of Maximum Mana) Ability Power
• UNIQUE Passive – Mana Charge: Each time you spend Mana, you gain 5 maximum Mana (3 second cooldown).
• Bonus Mana: 0/750
• Transforms into Seraph’s Embrace at 750 Bonus Mana

Seraph's Embrace
(Upgraded from Archangel’s Staff when fully charged)

• +1000 Mana
• +60 Ability Power
• +10 Mana Regen per 5 seconds
• UNIQUE Passive – Insight: +(3% of Maximum Mana) Ability Power
• UNIQUE Active: Drains 25% of your current mana to shield yourself for an equal amount for 2.5 seconds - 120 second cooldown.

With the Tear of the Goddess changes (750 mana cap down from 1000, and maximum mana increasing on mana spent rather than spell cast, you're welcome channelers) there wasn't much to say about this until we get down to Seraph's Embrace. Several champions already made use of the Tear of the Goddess route, but with the added survivability of Seraph's Embrace will we see more champions take this item?

Sightstone

• +125 Health
• Unique Passive - Refresh (Ward) : Starts with 4 charges and refills each time you stop by your shop.
• Unique Active - Ghost Ward: Consumes a charge to place an invisible ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. You may have a maximum of 2 wards from this item at once.

Perhaps the new must-have support item in League of Legends. Although no information has been leaked on how often you can charge Sightstone, i.e. what stops you from walking off the fountain and back on it to charge the item, it has been confirmed that some item will be built with it. Free wards, health, and an even greater item on the horizon? Yes, please.

Tiamat
(Melee Only)

• +50 Attack Damage
• +15 Health Regen per 5 seconds
• UNIQUE Passive – Cleave: Your attacks deal up to 60% of your Attack Damage to units around your target – decaying down to 20% near the edge.
• UNIQUE Active – Crescent: Deals up to 100% of your Attack Damage to units around you – decaying down to 60% near the edge – 10 second cooldown.

Ravenous Hydra – Builds from Tiamat
(Melee Only)

• +75 Attack Damage
• +15 Health Regen per 5 seconds
• +10% Life Steal
• Passive: Damage dealt by this item works with Life Steal.

With an increased passive range, a new active, and an upgradeable path Tiamat might just appear in builds other than Fiora, Yi, and Kayle. Although it only works with melee champions, bruisers all day, every day, it seems that Riot is trying to create a viable offensive AoE item. We'll see how it goes.

Runaan's Hurricane
(Ranged Only)

• +60% Attack Speed
• UNIQUE Passive: Your basic attacks fire minor bolts at 2 nearby targets, each dealing (50% of Total Attack Damage) physical damage. These apply on-hit effects.

Fitting along the same theme of Tiamat, Runaan's Hurricane is made specifically for ranged champions. Nothing has been released for what it might be built out of or how much it will cost, but just by looking at the passive it's safe to say that Riot is trying to make on-hit builds more than a gimmick. Item Removals

• Cloak and Dagger
• Moonflair Spellblade
• Meki Pendant
• Regrowth Pendant
• Madred's Bloodrazor
• Force of Nature
• Ionic Spark
• Elixir of Agility
• Heart of Gold

Rest in peace, beloved items. Meki Pendant and Regrowth Pendant build paths will be replaced with Fairy Charm and Rejuvination Bead. New tenacity items may be made, but it will be hard to overthrow the popularity of Mercury Treads. Madred's Bloodrazor will be seeing its replacement with the Twisted Treeline item Blade of the Ruined King, Force of Nature's stats are being spread around to new items, and Ionic Spark, Elixir of Agility, and Heart of Gold are being removed entirely.

Here's to Season 3! I hope all of you other summoners are as excited as me for these changes, and it's safe to say that only time will tell with how this will shift the meta, if at all. Either way it's good to see Riot this hard at work to bring a balanced, exciting, and fair experience to its players.
