OnGameNet's League of Legends tournament starts its third season on Friday, 9 November and it promises to be just as exciting as the first two! After two very successful seasons of OGN The Champions, full of very high production value, it's time for the Winter season of 2012-2013. As it has been determined in front of millions of viewers during the Season 2 World Championship and MLG Dallas that Korea is way ahead of most regions, the third installment of the Korean tournament will probably gather the attention of even more people. With a new sponsor, more prize money than ever and some new exciting format, you definitely don't want to miss any of it!
This time the number of teams has been reduced from 16 to 12 and they are divided into two groups of six. For the first three weeks they will play in a round robin format with each match being a best of two. If a team wins both games, they will receive 3 points but if they end up with a 1:1 score, each of them will get 1 point. In the 4th week there will be the so called "Interleague Play" where the teams from group A and B with the same standings in the groups will play against each other. The top 4 teams from each group will advance to the bracket stage, where all games will be Best of Five with the eventual fifth game being in blind pick mode.
Here are the groups:
Group A
Group B
The staggering prize pool of ₩ 250 000 000 or around $ 230 000 will be divided as follows:
The tournament starts on Friday, 9 November at 10:00 CET and the matches that will be played will be Azubu Frost vs Xenics Storm and CJ Entus vs GSG. With the same starting time on Saturday we will see LG-IM vs KT Rolster A and after that a match that promises to be the highlight of the first week - Azubu Blaze vs NaJin Sword. Will Sword get revenge for the MLG Dallas' lost final? We'll find out very soon only here!
