The Starcraft II tournament at the ESWC was played on two days, while the other games needed some more times to complete. While Friday was all about the group stage, Saturday was all about the playoffs. There have been quite some surprises and upsets.
While most of the favourites did advance, some good players did not even manage to pass the group stage.
Dmytro 'DIMAGA' Filipchuk,
Silviu 'NightEnD' Lazar and
Jérémy 'Feast' Vansnick did not manage to advance, each player only winning one match and losing two.
The playoffs ensured that another European would be the champion of the ESWC once again - and it should not be a French winner!
Hyun-Woo 'Squirtle' Park got kicked out pretty early, while
Ilyes 'Stephano' Satouri and
Grzegorz 'MaNa' Komincz both advanced. They faced each other in the semi-finals where MaNa was able to beat Stephano and therefore dethroned him.
Ji Soo 'ForGG' Park was the opponent of MaNa in the finals but didn't stand a chance against the Polish Protoss, who once again proved that he is capable of beating the best of the best in Europe.
MaNa continues his success in Europe as he already had two great DH runs, including gold at DH Summer. He kicked out Stephano of the top 2 in the semi finals and ForGG seemed like no match for him. The ESWC champion is once again European for the second time in a row.
