The organization of the World E-sports Masters announced that Counter-Strike 1.6 will not be one of the featured games for the 2012 edition of the event. The Chinese event will only have StarCraft 2 and League of Legends as official disciplines. The organization behind the World E-Sports Masters has announced in a press release that they will not be featuring Counter-Strike 1.6 as one of the main game titles. The Chinese event started the support to the 13 years-old Valve's game in 2005 under the name of World E-Sports Games, and continued featuring CS 1.6 for a few more years after becoming World E-Sports Masters.
On the first seasons of the event it was a two months long league in Seoul. With the run of the years the two months tournament time lapse was shortened to a week and moved to China. For the 2012 edition, it will last only three days and will feature only two official game titles.

WeMadeFox was the last winner of WEM in the year 2010
As main reason of the dropping of Counter-Strike 1.6 for this year, the organization mentioned the amount of teams retiring or making the switch to the brand new Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The organizers also said that would not be possible to release invites for eight top teams in this season, meaning that would not make sense to hold a CS 1.6 tournament.
