EU Counter Logic Gaming EU vs KR Azubu Frost

Game 1

Bans

CLG: Skarner, Nocturne, Shen
Frost: Malphite, Alistar, Anivia

Picks

CLG: Soraka, Kog Maw, Diana, Maokai, Irelia
Frost: Gragas, Amumu, Vladimir, Zyra, Ezreal

Game Recap

The game started with Azubu moving aggresively on to Snoopeh's red buff. While they were stealing it they got spotted by Ezreal who was doing the golems. When Snoopeh figured out what was happening he quickly took his blue and ganked top lane where he got first blood, killing Vladimir with Wickd's help. Roaming played a significant role in the early stages of the game and in one of these attempts to roam Gragas got followed by Diana and Maokai and this countergank resulted in a double kill for Maokai. After this, CLG grabbed the first dragon of the game.

The mid and late game was all about fighting for dragon and baron for the two teams. At the second dragon fight of the game CLG managed to initiate with an Irelia stun and won the fight with a 2-1 trade and the dragon gold in their pockets. The third required more champion sacrifices to give his gold than the second. After a 4-2 exchange in favour of CLG the dragon was slained by the Europeans. The last fight of the game was for Baron and CLG won it easily. A 4-0 exchange in CLG's favour and a baron was enough for Azubu to surrender.

Winner: CLG

Game 2

Bans

Frost: Malphite, Alistar, Anivia
CLG: Skarner, Diana, Ahri

Picks

Frost: Gragas, Shen, Jayce, Janna, Corki
CLG: Leona, Ezreal, Irelia, Cho Gath, Karthus

Game Recap

Frost started aggresive once again. They caught Irelia in the top tribush with their powerful accelarating skills and Shen got the kill. Azubu grabbed the first dragon of the game at 9 minute mark and CLG didn't try to contest it. After that, Azubu applied their most common strategy. They destroyed the top and bottom outter turret and they gathered at the mid lane to end the laning phase quicker. CLG played their cards right though, and after a great Leona ult they managed to get 3:0 exchange in their favour.

CLG grabbed the second dragon of the game uncontested. A team fight took place at the bottom lane and CLG came on top with a 4-3 exchange in their favour. After this fight CLG had the gold lead but Azubu didn't quit and after some roaming in CLG's jungle they got exactly what they wanted. They caught Karthus off position and CLG made the decision to stay there and fight. This decision backfired in their hands and they lost 2 while killing only one.

CLG kept the rest of the Frost team away from the baron long enough for their two dead members to respawn and contest the dragon in a 5v5. CLG won that fight and picked up the first dragon of the game. With the baron buff on them, CLG started pushing. They caught Janna off position between the inner and the inhibitor turret in the bottom lane, they bursted her down and got the two bottom turrents and the inhibitor. They went back to heal and shop, they took the second baron of the game and they decided to make the final push. A 3-1 exchange inside Azubu's base was enough for them to take game 2.

Winner: CLG

Game 3

Bans

CLG: Skarner, Nocturne, Shen
Frost: Diana, Alistar, Anivia

Picks

CLG: Malphite, Ashe, Leona, Vladimir, Jayce
Frost: Karthus, Maokai, Jax, Lux, Ezreal

Game Recap

Game 3 kicked off without any serious aggresion like the two previous games. CLG swapped their bottom with their top lane but Azubu didn't look like they wanted to adapt to CLG's swap. So the lanes were played like this for the entire laning phase. Malphite went to gank top, caught Lux a bit of position and bursted her down with the help of Ashe and Leona. Azubu had the advantage in the numbers for a dragon fight since they didn't send their bottom lane to top. They used this advantage and took the first dragon of the game.

After a few kills and assists here and there, the second dragon of the game spawned. CLG took it and Azubu took the middle outter turret instead to cover some of the global gold that they lost from the dragon. Nothing really exciting was happening in the next minutes until Maokai decided to initiate on CLG. The initiation wasn't the best though and CLG won this fight 3-1.

Both teams realised that it was time to fight for the baron and that's the point where Azubu got the lead again. Wickd tried to bait because he had a GA but he didn't count the damage correctly and he was found dead way out of position. When CLG got there Wickd was already dead and Azubu aced CLG, only losing two and they took the baron. Azubu needed one more fight like this to finish the game and they got it three minutes after. Another ace for Azubu and the game was officially over.

Winner: Azubu Frost

Game 4

Bans

Frost: Alistar, Karthus, Gragas
CLG: Skarner, Diana, Malphite

Picks

Frost: Anivia, Shen, Vladimir, Blitzcrank, Graves
CLG: Leona, Ezreal, Ahri, Cho'Gath, Irelia

Game Recap

This time CLG. eu chose to be the early aggressor and invaded Azubu's jungle. They managed to steal the red buff and kill Shen. Graves got the kill. After a few kills in the lanes CLG. eu took the first dragon of the game at the the 9 minute mark. No major teamfight but a gank from Blitzcrank that went to help top lane and gave Vlad a double kill and a tower. A big teamfight took place near the dragon's nest after the second dragon spawned but only 1-1 exchange. Azubu took the dragon though extending their lead.

Frost started to push the mid lane and teams were ready for a big 5v5. 1 minute later Azubu engaged on CLG and a 2-2 exchange allowed Azubu to take the inner mid turret. After this fight, an amazing play by Azubu's support sealed the victory for Azubu. Ezreal took the wraiths but he got spotted by a ward. Blitzcrank went as close as he could and with a full range hook he grabbed Ezreal and his team bursted him down. With the opponent AD carry dead, Azubu were in a very comfortable position to take the baron. And they did.

Azubu already knew that they only had to push one more time and do any silly mistakes and the games was theirs 100%. Azubu started pushing for the victory with CLG. eu fighting desperately to keep them. The minions were pushing and it was too hard for them to hold Azubu away from the inhibitor. Azubu finally caught Froggen out of position and destroyed the nexus.

Winner: Azubu Frost

Game 5 (Blind Pick)

Picks

CLG: Leona, Ezreal, Diana, Maokai, Malphite
Frost: Karthus, Shen, Jax, Alistar, Ezreal

Game Recap

This game started a bit more passive than the other 4 since it wasn't just a game at stake. It was the whole tournament. Still the Korean aggression couldn't be caged in the importance of any match. Azubu warded the red buff and Woong was waiting behind it when Snoopeh was trying to take it. When the lizard was low enough to kill it with a Q, Ezreal threw it and made one of the biggest highlights in the history of the tournament. The first dragon went to CLG but the constant action in the game favoured the team that is used to play more against this style which is Azubu. The caught Yellowpete off position and killed him after he stole their blue, and both the solo lanes of CLG went down.

Azubu kept applying pressure on the Europeans knowing that they are ahead in gold. A few bad calls for CLG gave Azubu three turrets while they only got one dragon. After a few more trades in kills the moment for Karthus to shine had come. Azubu iniated near baron but CLG responded really good and killed three without losing anyone. Yet. Karthus went down and suddenly four CLG champions were dead. Frost engaged one more time near baron's nest and won another teamfight with a 4 - 2 exchange. A few minutes after Azubu grabbed the baron while the score was 21 - 8. They had a clear advantage and they used it to its fullest. Two consecutive aces and the best of 5 was over. Azubu proved for one more time, that nothing is impossible. They turned around a best of 5 that looking really bad for them and won the biggest tournament in Asia!

Winner: Azubu Frost
