After last weeks stop of the World Championship Series in Ukraine, the qualifiers went on to the north to decide: Who really is the king of the north? And who will play at the european qualifiers for the nordic nations? The Nordic Nationals have been highly anticipated. The Northern European nations, especially Sweden, are famous for producing solid Starcraft 2 talent.
The qualifiers of Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden have all been played in one huge nordic finals event hosted by the production team of Dreamhack.
Here are the winners:
Norway
The Norway Nationals started out by showing us exactly what the World Championship Series was supposed to, unknown talents shining!
Noctimus was able to take the European qualification spot and managed to rank 2nd even though he is an almost unknown player. Nevertheless he ended up being placed higher than the well known Traga and Snute.
Finnland
The Finland Nationals had just a few more known players and turned out to be a really intense tournament. In the end Naama, recently picked up by fnatic, managed to win over elfi who got second and Welmu, who placed third. This means a terran player will represent Finland in the European Qualifiers.
Denmark
Denmark also gave us a lot of games from people who do not really get much coverage. The winner though was an easy pick in Babyknight, who recently managed to qualify for TSL. BabyKnight managed to take the entire tournament without losing a single series. Taking the #1 spot and picking up his trip to the European Championship.
Sweden
The Swedish Nationals were expected to be one of the most competitive in the world and it did not disappoint. With players like Sjow, LaLuSh and Cytoplasm getting knocked out in the first two rounds, you know you are in for a treat.
2 Players were able to make for quite a few upsets. Firstly Seiplo, who was able to take out LaLuSh and Sase finishing third in the tournament.
The Second player is responsible for Naniwa being fourth place, as he managed to come out of the losers bracket beating Cytoplasm, Bischu, Sase and Naniwa. In the end he even managed to force Thorzain into an extended series but Thorzain was able to beat him after the second series was 1:1 in a long and drawn out game, fitting his nickname "the spoon terran".
The result of the tournament is that Thorzain, SortOf and Seiplo are going to represent Sweden in the European Championship and considering the caliber of players the two new guys were able to take out, it seems like Sweden has yet again produced another set of solid Starcraft 2 talent.
