ImageAlongside the Dota Store, the beta stage of Dota 2 is technically over, although the game is not yet ready for release.

Valve Corporation has signaled that the beta stage of Dota 2 is now over; the game is now getting prepared for a free-to-play public release. However, this does not mean that players cannot still get their hands on the software. In the newly-released Dota Store, Steam users may purchase the early access bundle for $39.99, which includes a copy of the game, along with a boar courier, the Traveler on the High Plains package for Juggernaut and the Swordmaster of the Vigil package for Sven.

Valve is currently in the process of bringing their servers up to the capcity needed for an audience comparable to the numbers relative to the original DotA. Although Dota 2 will indeed be free-to-play at the time of release, the early access bundle will be the exclusive option until the game is released. In addition, progress and statistics earned by players at this stage will not be reset at the time of Dota 2's release, unlike many other AAA beta stages. Valve anticipates that the majority of the unreleased content at this time will be available by the time of The International.
