How come World Elite qualified for the Season 2 championships already, when North America and Europe are still far away from any kind of qualifiers?

There are two things you need to know to understand this news. First of all, there's Tencent. Tencent is a Chinese company that bought Riot Games last year. We didn't really notice their presence because they don't interfere in North American or European League of Legends.

Secondly, Tencent runs the Chinese servers and it's basically up to them to decide how Chinese teams can qualify for the Season Two finals in Los Angeles. And so they've determined that the first seed in their seasonal ranking automatically qualifies for the finals of Season Two.

World Elite is the first seed, and none of the other teams can threaten this spot. The second place in the ranking and thus the second qualified Chinese team, will be decided through a tournament called China Joy between the second and fifth places in the standing, including Invictus Gaming and EHOME.
