Two wild cards to The International

ImageHot off the heals of announcing the previous runner-ups from last year, EHOME, as the latest invites to The International, Valve has declared that two teams will be invited based on regional qualifiers.

Two of the sixteen attending teams will be wild card invites, designated as the winners of the upcoming regional tournaments. The wild cards, categorized as being from the "East" and the "West", will likely be the resultant victors from Asian and Euro-American tournaments, in order to geographically balance out the contestants. Providing the yet-unannounced qualifiers is likely an attempt from Valve to allow for some unsponsored, unsung hero teams to have a chance to compete for the million dollar grand prize.

Currently, there are three dominant Chinese DotA teams invited, as well as one American team, one European team, one East-Asian team and one Australian team. Aside from the Chinese teams, that have generally witheld from committing to Dota 2 until the game would mature, the current invites are geographically-balanced, leading to speculation that Valve will commit to four teams per region. Some anticipated teams include SE Counter Logic Gaming , US Evil Geniuses , EU mTw and DK Copenhagen Wolves .
