Introduction to: the bottom lane
Runes and masteries for the AD carry
One thing I want to advise you is to always be creative with your masteries and runes. Who knows, maybe you will find a way to counter the mastery and rune pages people use nowadays.
21/9/0 mastery page – AD carries have really few viable mastery pages because they focus mainly on damage. This is the most common one. 21 points in offense tree offers you some good damage both late and early game, 9 points in the defensive tree gives you some early game survivability, without this you will lose more exchanges.
21/0/9 mastery page – The biggest difference of picking 9 points in utility tree instead of defense one is that it provides 20% buff duration. Would only pick this page if I know the enemy in my lane won’t be over aggressive so I don’t lose trades without those 9 points in defensive tree.
9x Greater Mark of Strength, 9x Greater Seal of Resilience, 9x Greater Glyph of Warding and
3x Greater Quintessence of Strength – Lifesaver rune page for last hitting under your turret. The flat AD provided by both Strength Quints and Marks makes last hitting fairly easy. The page also provides armor and magic resist which are vital for surviving the laning phase. You’ll find yourself using this rune page with majority of AD carries regardless of what team composition the enemy team has.
Runes and masteries for the support
I feel like there is more room of creativity for masteries when you play as a support instead of an AD carry. Instead of focusing on damage like AD carry does, you focus mainly on surviving.
0/9/21 mastery page – The most common mastery page supports use. You get a decent amount of armor and HP which help you survive the early game. The 21 points in utility provide you a whole bunch of useful bonuses. I believe the revamp of mastery system was even more beneficial for supports, the utility tree seems like the perfect choice now.
9/0/21 mastery page – A little bit more aggressive mastery page than the 1st one I mentioned. Instead of getting some armor and health, you get some cooldown reduction, magic pen, and ability power. Wouldn’t choose this mastery page if I’m going up against an aggressive lane. However it’s a good mastery page against someone who just wants to AFK farm, you can definitely help your AD carry disturb the enemy farm fest.
0/23/7 – A mastery page that
Alex 'Xpecial' Chu has been using a lot. You can see this mastery page used in many guides he wrote. The mastery page provides a large amount of defensive stats, cooldown reduction, and some mana regen. I feel like this page is really good in high level play, but in solo queue, where you mainly focus on killing enemies and winning your lane, there are better, more aggressive alternatives.
0/22/8 – This is almost the same one as above, but instead of providing more mana regen, it provides movement speed. Personal preference of which one you want to use in my opinion.
9x Greater Mark of Resilience, 9x Greater Seal of Resilience, 9x Greater Glyph of Warding and
3x Greater Quintessence of Potency – Definitely a low elo solo queue stomp page. Gives you good amount of resistances and some early game damage. Use this when you want to play more aggressively. When you want to play a bit more passive, consider switching out the Potency quints for Avarice quints.
9x Greater Mark of Resilience, 9x Greater Seal of Avarice, 9x Greater Glyph of Warding and 3x Greater Quintessence of Avarice - When your AD wants to AFK farm all game, this is the page to go with. A really good page on Soraka and similar passive supports in my opinion. So much money with all those GP/10 items and Avarice runes.
9x Greater Mark of Resilience, 9x Greater Seal of Clarity, 9x Greater Glyph of Warding and 3x Greater Quintessence of Avarice - In exchange for some mana regen you lose a decent amount of armor. Use this page if you're sure you'll have to spam your skills. Personal choice of which one you want to choose.
