EG closes CS division

ImageTeam EG have officially announced that they will no longer be supporting a Counter-Strike 1.6 squad.

Yesterday rumours arose after a thread on ESEA forums that US Evil Geniuses would not renew contracts with their 1.6 division. Today, the organisation made it clear with an official statement that they will no longer be supporting Counter-Strike 1.6.

COO of EG Scott Smith said the following about the termination:

“Counter-Strike is the game that started it all for me in regards to competitive gaming. From playing it, to reporting on it for GotFrag, to helping run EG, CS has always been my favorite game. Unfortunately, the landscape has changed over the years and CS no longer has the draw it once had for fans, teams, players, or tournament organizers. Based on these facts, we have made the very difficult business decision to step away from CS. I hope this ends up being a temporary situation for EG and I eagerly await what 2012 will bring for CS:GO and for EG.”

Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert posted on his facebook page:

"Team EG has folded their Counter-Strike 1.6 division. I won't be quitting counter-strike, but it seems that I won't have a team to compete with at least for now. The future of things are un clear but I'll try to keep you guys updated and possibly with my free time do some more lessons and community events.

Thank you to everyone who has tuned into an HLTV to watch me play for EG in the past, and thank you to everyone who has shown me support on forums and giving me kind words here. I know that the gaming world would not be much without the fans.

So, cheers to you guys and cheers to e-Sports!"

Not all members of the team however have left the organisation, as EG stated that US Jordan 'n0thing' Gilbert will stay with them as a gaming evangelist, and will produce content for the organisations new website.

This move makes it even more likely that UA Natus Vincere will take their spot in the IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev, which takes place later this month. The Ukrainian team is next in line should a team drop out, after their seventh place win over DK Anexis eSports .
