DreamHack Winter to feature Dota 2

ImageDreamHack has announced that Dota 2 will be a featured title this November, making for the return of the franchise after a year-long hiatus.

For the past year, DreamHack has not featured DotA as a competitive title, instead relying upon stand-alone action RTS titles, such as Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends. Rumors circulated, however, almost immediately after the conclusion of the ESWC 2011 tournament, resulting in UA Natus Vincere 's second major gold medal in Dota 2. The host organization has now confirmed that Dota 2 will now be featured in this up and coming winter tournament, entitled the DreamHack Corsair Vengeance Dota 2 Championship, in Jönköping, Sweden.

The tournament will feature a prize pool of 100,000 SEK, translating to approximately 15,312.50 USD. The competition will begin with the BYOC qualifier on November 24, in a standard Best of one, five-on-five format, with 64 teams. The main tournament will begin on November 25, with the four qualifying teams, as well as four specially invited. Any registered players who do not already have the beta are granted an invite.

Prize Purse: 100,000 SEK
1st – 50,000 SEK
2nd – 25,000 SEK
3rd – 15,000 SEK
4th – 10,000 SEK

Coinciding with this tournament announcement is a blog update from the Dota team at Valve, informing us that the server capacity has made leaps and bounds and therefore, Dota 2 will be more prominent with more content developed in these coming weeks.
