lurppis: WinFakt may miss IEM VI Kiev

Imagelurppis said in a facebook post that WinFakt may miss IEM VI Kiev due to ESL not informing his team, or the other top Finnish teams, when the Finnish pre-qualifier was taking place.

FI WinFakt Fi leader FI Tomi 'lurppis' Kovanen says his team, currently ranked #1 in IEM SVI ranking points, may well end up missing out on attending the IEM VI Global Challenge Kiev due to ESL holding the Finnish pre-qualifier on Sunday without informing the teams, despite the top three Finnish teams being indisposed due to attending digifest Fall. lurppis says his team checked the ESL site on Saturday and saw nothing and received no email informing them of the time and date of the qualifier.

FI lurppis' facebook post:

"Apparently there's a high chance you won't see WinFakt at IEM GC Kiev as ESL decided to hold the Finnish qualifier without the top three Finnish teams (who were all at Digifest) being informed about it... For the people who are going to blame us, we checked the ESL site on Saturday afternoon and they normally send out emails, I guess not this time :)"

After someone suggested WinFakt might still get to attend due to other teams being incapable of funding themselves to the event lurppis explained why that likely will not be the case:

"that is the on going joke in our team as well, but unless the +200 teams who will probably participate can't go (and there are local Ukrainian teams as well) we won't stand a chance -> we'd have to at least be a part of the final qualifier to even be considered, and we couldn't even participate in the Finnish pre-qualifier"

WinFakt are fresh off an October which saw them take down ~$23,680 in prize money. The Finns placed 3rd at IEM VI Guangzhou, 3rd at SEC 2011, 2nd at IEM VI New York, 5th-8th at ESWC 2011 and 1st at digifest Fall.

This is not the first time ESL has failed to communicate the dates of qualifiers to key players. During past seasons there were cases where the IEM IV European champion BY Cypher did not play in his regional qualifier due to being unaware of when it would be held. An additional qualifier was later held by which the player qualified.
