Both SK and Fnatic continue their unbeaten streaks to set up an all European Grand Final at IEM Global Challenge New York. The knockout stages of IEM Global Challenge New York started today for the League of Legends tournament.
SK Gaming were up against
Counter Logic Gaming . CLG have had the better of our SK side in the last two IEM competitions with them defeating SK in the group stage of Global Challenge Cologne and knocking us out in this same fixture at IEM Guangzhou. This time however SK were fresh off the back of a clean 3-0 sweep in the group stage and so were brimming with confidence.
After a tough early game for SK in which it looked like CLG could be about to repeat their previous results we managed to see SK pull it together with some great play to earn the first victory in the best of three.
In the second game we saw SK take the dominance straight from the start. SK managed to get the first blood on CLG before the minions had spawned and this lifted the heads of the SK team while hurting the confidence of the CLG team.
The third game ended up being fairly comfortable with SK giving CLG a very satisfying 2-0 piece of revenge to earn their place in the Grand Final.

Semi-Final
fnatic vs
Team Sypher
The other semi-final saw Fnatic against the other European qualifiers for the semi-final, Sypher. Fnatic went into this match as favourites after winning their group 3-0.
This added pressure appeared to have no affect on Fnatic as they also went 2-0 in the semi-final, even forcing an early surrender from the French in the first game.
This means that we will see a Grand-Final in New York between two European teams, therefore we will have an European team win an IEM event for the first time.
Fnatic and SK Gaming have both also earned a place at the IEM World Championships in 2011.
