IEM 6 NY: SK cruise in WinFakt opener
SK won their opener at IEM VI New York by handling WinFakt 16:7 on inferno.
SK Gaming cruised to a 16:7 win their opening group match against
WinFakt Fi on inferno. Despite being the first match of the group many expected this to be SK's most difficult test of the day, being as the Finns come off third place finishes at IEM VI Guangzhou and SEC. In fact things looked reasonably comfortable for the Swedes as they pushed through big runs to seal the game without any real danger.
First half
The game began on the right foot for SK as they took the pistol round, GeT_RiGhT turning a 2v3 into a 2v0 as he killed all three WinFakt players in B. After losing the first three rounds WinFakt got on the board with an A push which developed into a 2v3 and eventually a 1v1 that face lost out to Basic. The next two went back to SK and then WinFakt took another, again at A.
With the score at 5:2 SK stormed into a six round winning streak, to push it all the way to 11:2. On the 10th round WinFakt hit A and looked to be favoured to win the round until three kills in a row from GeT_RiGhT got SK back into it. With jigetus facing Delpan in a 1v1 the Finnish player chose to repeatedly peek the AWPer, who was in the pit, and eventually died to him.
On the 12th round WinFakt switched to attacking B but found themselves crippled after face flashed out and then aggressively pushed, killing three before dying. The half closed out with two round wins for WinFakt at A to bring the score to 11:4 for SK.
Second half
SK got the pistol round but WinFakt were able to surprise them on the second round with deagles and tie up the half. SK went with deagles and one AK but heading to A found themselves crushed as jigetus killed three from pit and lurppis snagged two along the way. After an SK eco round loss WinFakt had moved to 7:12. From there on it was SK all the way.
In the 20th round two early kills from GeT_RiGhT, on WinFakt players pushing banana, saw SK switch to A and there face killed the remaining Finns. The next round saw GeT_RiGhT again contribute two and this time Delpan added a brace of his own. The last two rounds were B attacks from SK and they were comfortable enough to take the game for the Swedish side.
