Evil Geniuses have been eliminated from Group A of the IEM VI Global Challenge New York after suffering 14:16 and 6:16 losses to Ultimax Gaming US and mTw respectively, with those two teams making it out in second and first. Sharing the same overall record and points UMX took the top spot over mTw due to round difference.

The case could be made that these results have actually provided an easier path to the final for the team from Group B who place second, being as mTw will apparently be flying in a replacement fifth and thus becoming stronger.



With mTw sporting a stand-in from the press area, Nix0n of HLTV.org, for Group A it might have seemed like the perfect opportunity for EG to snatch away the top spot and move into the semi-finals in style. Instead the ESEA champions found themselves narrow losers in their match against the aforementioned Danish players and journalist, heading into their final group game, against UMX.us, needing a win. That same UMX team featured former EG leader steno as a stand-in.

Only taking five rounds as Ts on train put EG's backs to the walls and UMX were able to close the game out quickly to progress in first place and put the team considered America's finest out. The humiliation of failing to progress from the group from the position of being favourites aside it is extra embarrassing for the American side that they would lose to two teams featuring stand-ins.
