Grand Final
The Grand Final saw Dignitas up against
Bans: Dignitas: Soraka, Yorick, Heimerdinger EPIK: Zilean, Kog'Maw, Akali
Picks: Dignitas: Trundle, Sona, Ezreal, Shen, Ryze
EPIK: Nocturne, Caitlyn, Talon, Taric, Sion
EPIK started the final strongly, they managed to get the current holy grail of a bottom lane with Taric and Caitlyn, widely considered to be the OP combination in the current AD/Support bot lane meta.
Both teams had some picks which are currently not frequently seen in the EU, Sion is somewhat out of favour despite his strength as is Shen who was picked by Dignitas.
On paper, EPIK had the stronger picks and it may be this which helped swing the game in their favour.
Game 2
Bans: Dignitas: Soraka, Heimerdinger, Yorick
EPIK: Zilean, Talon, Kog'Maw
Picks: EPIK: Vayne, Lee Sin, Morgana, Janna, Gangplank
Dignitas: Akali, Sona, Trundle, Ryze, Caitlyn
In game 2 we see that Dignitas picked up the Akali that was previously banned by EPIK. EPIK deciding that they feared the Talon from the previous game more than that of Akali. The Sona pick is somewhat interesting when Taric was open for Dignitas but the Sona AOE stun would be useful against the 3 x AD line-up for EPIK. Similarly the Janna pick helps to counter Akali.
The second game was secured by Dignitas with great map awareness playing a large part. The game started slowly with 2 drakes going down before the first-blood was drawn by Dignitas.
There were few skirmishes to be had, but a team fight at bottom which went in the favour of Dignitas allowed them to push the bottom lane to the inhibitor. With this map control Dignitas began to take towers as a team before being able to force a Baron fight. Dignitas secured the Baron and used the opportunity to round off Game 2.
Game 3
Bans: Dignitas: Soraka, Yorick, Heimerdinger EPIK: Kog'Maw, Caitlyn, Ryze
Picks: Dignitas: Akali, Vayne, Trundle, Sona, Morgana
EPIK: Zilean, Talon, Taric, Lee Sin, Miss Fortune
In Game 3 we saw the much banned Zilean getting picked up straight away by EPIK. Zilean is still a top pick in the US but continues to be overlooked by the majority in the EU. Dignitas once again picked up Akali and this time also got Morgana who had been another frequent ban.
The third and final game started evenly with both teams picking up an even amount of early kills. Dignitas didn't establish a lead until the late-mid game where they managed to win a team-fight around the contested Baron. They also secured the Baron and established some map control with the buff. Dignitas also secured a second Baron and an ace to give themselves firm control of the match.
After one more skirmish involving some huge kiting by Akali we saw Dignitas secure the top inhibitor and draw the surrender from EPIK.
