Stephano Crowned IPL 3 Champion
The French Zerg, who has been hailed as a European monster, has claimed first place at IPL 3 becoming a notable name in the foreign SC2 community.
Ilyes 'Stephano' Satouri, had been making a splash in the European Starcraft 2 scene, and has been famous for being an incredible player on the ladder, and has won various small tournaments around his home country. However, he had not yet acquired a major title to add to his list of tournament wins in Starcraft 2.
It would all change however, after he would travel to the United States to participate in the IGN Pro League Season 3 LAN finals. There in the main bracket he would defeat the Canadian innovator
Jonathan 'KiWiKaKi' Garneau 2-1 in a thrilling set, involving incredible Mothership play from KiWiKaKi in game 2.
However, soon he would have to go through three Korean players to reach the finals, and he would go on to destroy his competition 2-0, 2-1, and 3-1 to
Kim 'viOlet' Dong Hwan,
Min Gyu 'Inori' Woo, and
Choi Yun 'TheStC' Sik respectively. Effectively proving that foreigners are winning tournaments with Koreans participating, and giving much hope to the foreign community in international Starcraft 2.
In the finals Stephano would have to defeat FX Open player
In Soo 'Lucky' Lee who also had his own hot streak in bracket play, where he defeated players such as the Emperor
Yo-Hwan 'BoxeR' Lim,
Kim Dong 'Ryung' Won,
Joseph 'Ret' de Kroon, and BoxeR's "son"
Seong Won 'MMA' Mun, 2-1, 2-1, 2-0, and 3-0 respectively.
In a sense both players were on an amazing hot streak, and many expected an exciting game from both players. However, it was exactly the opposite and Stephano destroyed his Korean opponent piece by piece. He would go on to win 4-0, and go on to claim the $30,000 first place prize. This makes him the third foreigner to win in an international tournament with Koreans participating, the first being EG.HuK and EG.IdrA being the second.
When asked where the money would go, he simply replied "to the bank", and left the stage. Stephano has truly gave the Starcraft 2 community, an exciting journey of incredible games, smart play, amazing micro, god-like macro, and in general just a stupendous experience for any Starcraft 2 gamer.
